Syrup at Disney

I guaranty you that the syrup at the WDW or any buffet for that matter is not the real stuff. True maple syrup goes for $40-60 a gallon. It usually takes about 40 gallons of sap from the maple tree to make just one gallon of syrup, so the stuff is like gold. My FIL just paid $120 for 3 gallons here in Ohio, and that was what I would consider a good price. This is the same reason you will never see morels. Though I am sure there are more people who don't know what a morel is vs. real maple syrup.

If they served real syrup they would price their buffet out of most people price points. Some people would pay it just for the syrup, but there are may people who have no idea what real syrup tastes like.

I grew up helping my dad and a friend of his collect sap each day in the late winter and early spring in southern Ontario. My dad bought his own evaporator and is in the middle of maple season right now. It is real hard work when you still collect in buckets.

It has been a couple years since I have had the real stuff, and this thread has me craving it...

The worst thing I ever did was try real maple syrup, now I can't hardly eat the fake stuff. I can only eat it if it's warm.

Wow! Syrup is expensive in other parts of the country. I just bought a half gallon for $8, of course we do live in New England (our neighbor has milk jugs hanging off his trees:laughing:) and I did buy it at Ocean State Job Lot so it is a little cheaper there, but still $40/gallon:scared:. Luckily my DSs like both so I'm good; DH on the other hand may have to bring his own :lmao:

DANG! I need the hookup! I just bought a piddly little jar at the store & it was almost $6. Not even CLOSE to a half gallon, probably only 6 oz. It lasts about a week here.

Know of any online sites?

6 oz??? A week??? That would do me one meal :lmao:

My system is so use to high fructose corn sweetners, with artificial flavors. Because, give me Mrs Butterworths Original any day. Over real vermont maple syrup. Are the people that love real maple syrup. Mixing it with something. Like butter? Or can you just have it plain? I dont get it.

::yes::

Trust me, I had that thought. I HATE cracker barrel for breakfast but I might consider eating there just to get those little bottles of syrup for our trip. LOL!
We live in Canada, and a trip to Cracker Barrel is a drive. Doesn't matter when, where or why we are there, my girls always get pancakes....just for the syrup bottles. Oh and whatever pop comes in the glass bottles. Apparently, they have a bottle fascination. :rotfl:

You can add butter to your pancakes/waffles if you want but it isn't necessary. You certainly wouldnt mix it with butter before using it if that's what you are asking.

I thought that too but good lord is 100% maple syrup YUMMY! And you need so little of it, especially if you're coming from the HFCS world. Poo on that stuff.

Well, we only eat pancakes about twice a week - one the wknds when I'm home. LOL!

I have always been a syrup snob. My grandparents always had Camps maple syrup and I can't stand the fake stuff any more. If its warm it is at least tolerable for a meal or two but thats about it. It is good to hear that I can at least get it warm at Disney. I didn't think that Disney would spring for pure maple considering how much they must go through.

For those that havent had it try the grade B maple syrup. Grade B does not mean it is worse in quality. The flavor is a little different and it is good to change it up every now and then.

Grade B is the BEST flavor wise! The lighter stuff looks like water compared to grade B! (we call it "Motor Oil" in our house!) It's yummy! I cannot stand the "other" stuff.... sugar water with flavorings.

This is my kind of subject, syrup snobs unite! I was born and raised in Vermont so I have pure maple syrup in my vains, won't even consider touching the fake stuff, not even warm. Unfortunately, I can't order pancakes at many places, even Disney.:snooty:

There are lots of trees with jugs/pails/tubing attached to them around here! We don't collect sap, but have neighbors who do... and I bring my canning jars over for a fill up... as often as I can! (which reminds me......)

Ooh, I'm glad for the warning! I would not have thought about cheap syrup being served in WDW!
Our favorite local restaurants serve local NH syrup!
We are right in the middle of syrup season. It's handy having a neighbor who does his own maple sugaring! He gave me a large mason jar this morning when I was out for my morning walk!

I love this................................a thread about SYRUP!:lmao:

We have both in our house, maple and fake, because the kids prefer the fake - - - - or at least they used to.

Just the other day, DS10 went on a field trip where they toured and learned about maple syruping. As we talked about his field trip with his 2 younger brothers, I showed the 3 of them the ingredient listing from the back of the Mrs Butterworths bottle in our pantry:
There is not one ounce of maple in that stuff.
They were appalled!

I think I just created 3 more syrup snobs! :snooty:
