Has anyone seen this at MK? Has anyone been picked to be king for the day? I missed it last time and want to try again this fall. Does anyone have information on this?
TIA!!!!

The do this at certain times of the day. The times are listed near the carosel, and I believe in the Park Map.
A certain amount of kids try to pull the sword from the stone, and one lucky kid does. During slow days it is nice...during busy times it can be hectic standing there.
The kid who pulls the sword out gets a certificate & I possibly a "front of line" pass to any attraction. (i seem to remember reading that somewhere)

My grandson was chosen for this.
First, Merlin chose a big, muscular man from the crowd and had him try to remove the sword. When he couldn't remove the sword, Merlin then chose a child (my grandson).
After Justin removed the sword, Merlin placed a robe around his shoulders and put a crown on his head and had him walk around the stage (with the man holding his robe up off the ground) and wave, acknowledging the applause of the crowd.
He was given a metal medallion (on a ribbon, to wear around his neck) that read "Ruler of the Realm". He was also given a certificate proclaiming him "Ruler of the Realm" for a day.
He was so proud of his medallion that he wore it the rest of the week. He was really thrilled when other cast members noticed his medallion and referred to him as the king or ruler.

There was no front of the line pass, though. Didn't matter--he was thrilled.
6 yrs later (he is now 11), the certificate (we framed it) still hangs on his bedroom wall.

That's so cool! I wonder if they ever pick older kids, my 9 year old loves swords (he has about a dozen toy ones of all sorts) and it would be a kick if he was selected!

We made it a point to see this last time we were at MK. It had always been one of those things we never quite prioritized. Anyhow, it was a really neat show. My kids were trying to get Merlin to choose them, but they did not get picked. Turns out that was a good thing. There were a couple of special-needs guests in the crowd who were chosen for the royal roles. The smiles on those faces brought a tear to my eyes. Bravo for Merlin! :thumbsup2

My DS(12) got picked last September. The experience was exactly like Poohlovr described. You would have thought DS died and went to heaven.

That is what I figured. Other events just took the place of doing this. I will make sure to get to it this trip!

Thank you everyone!

The sword is in the stone in front of Cinderella's Carosel even when the show is not going on.. I took a picture of my DD trying to pull it out of the stone.... the picture turned out really cool (with the carosel in the background)

So even if your child does not get picked, you can still get a fun photo as a keepsake!!

When I was a child I got picked to be king of the day!

Then last year I got picked to be the "bodyguard!" :)

Now that I've seen both sides of the spectrum, I think I was a lot happier being the "king." I didn't get made fun of as much ;)
