does anyone else suffer from swollen ankles after a flight. If so, does anyone have any 'cures or preventions'. I'm getting really fed up with it. Mine swell up even on short flights and it takes a few days for it to diminish. Has anyone used flight socks and would they work for swollen ankles????

I always suffer from swollen ankles during and after flights. The only thing I find that prevents this is to wear either flight socks or support tights. The last few times I flew to the USA I wore support tights - but they do get a bit uncomfortable after maybe 20 hours of a transaltlantic journey - especially if arriving in mid-summer Floridian heat!!!

Keep your ankles moving during the flight - and don't wear anyting too tight around your feet.

Once relaxed in your hotel, you should keep your feet elevated for as long as possible - put a pillow under your feet even in bed and this should reduce it a bit quicker - and getting someone to massage your legs and ankles can help get rid of it too.

Hope this helps

My whole legs swell up to my knees and I've found flight socks and tights too uncomfortable. Much of the time I drape myself over my poor huband, but we've now decided ,wherever possible to upgrade.

Keeping your legs elevated overnight on arrival helps a bit

I always suffer from swollen ankles . . . or should I say until I'd discovered flight socks.

I agree with Gill that the conventional style flight sox are uncomfortable, but last two trips I've worn the "new style" Scholl ones where the heels and toes are free. They are also neutral in color so not quite so offensive to look at (specially coming home with your shorts on:earseek: ).

I hardly have swollen ankles now, it's great.

I also wear flip flops on the flight and then there's no problem trying to get shoes on when you land!

I know exactly what you mean, I have suffered with swollen ankles on flights for years, except for this past March cos I bought myself some Scholl flight socks. When you go to Boots they measure your calf and ankle area and advise on the right size as they can vary. When you first put them on they feel quite tight, but my ankles were fine when we reached Orlando.
