Switching resorts because of no AP code?

I'm still debating. I'm booked at WL (booked it in March!) with the AAA discount. It is affordable for me, but ... husband will be unemployed after tomorrow so we may try to cut back a little. I really really like POFQ, but my TA says there are no AAA rates available there. They are available at POR. I need to decide fairly quickly. I'd stay at WL if we were to get any kind of AP discount. I've never stayed there, only visited and I love it! I'm in the black October hole...

As upset as I am... I'm not switching. I make it a policy never to book a rate I can't afford... so while I won't be happy, it won't ruin my stay.

Same here. I love the new Best Rate thing, since it makes it easier to actually get a discounted room at the hotel of my choice early out. Makes it much easier to plan ahead. :) I'm already booked for Feb at the BWI, and I love not having to even worry that I might not get a discount there since I've already gotten $70 off rack rate. :cool1:

But back in the "oh my god will I get my call into CRO in time to get an AP rate the day they are released" days, I just booked what I could afford, and if I happened to get a good deal on something else the day rates, came out, I'd upgrade. Not vice versa.

I don't get the difference. A room is still booked, and Disney still may not see a reason for AP's, because rooms are booked.
If I book a mod hoping for an AP rate and then rebook at a value, because it didn't hapen, so I downgrade, or you book mod hoping for an upgrade because the price went down so you'll rebook at a deluxe..a room is being held no matter what. If the reason people didn't like the "not real AP holders" booking is because they will downgrade, what the heck is the difference, if you plan on upgrading :confused3

Lets see, if I'm upgrading, Disney gets more money.

It's not the same as booking 4 expensive rooms and then cancelling them all when you don't get a rate and moving to a $77 a night room at ASM. Disney makes out in the deal, regardless.

I disagree. Going by your reasoning, once people "save" that room with their reservation, it's telling Disney there are no needs for AP rates at that mod, since the mod has few rooms left (if others thought like you and did the same thing). If you make your reservation, you should make it where you plan on staying. After all, if you book up all the mods, and that's where I intend to make my reservation and WILL stay, there may not be an AP for me, since you have it booked already and given Disney the idea the mod is booked up...but then you cancel it..but maybe too late for me. So you would be no different from someone booking a room at a deluxe they have no intentions of staying at, if there is no AP rate. Disney may make more money, but you have still shut out Aper's..which is what I thought was the complaint about others booking rooms they didn't intend to use, if they didn't get the AP rate they wanted.

I spoke with a member of membership services on the dvc line and she said that is the only way to make an ap rate

Nope, I won't be switching. I booked 2 rooms at POR for our family. That's were we are staying. If an AP rate comes out and I can apply it , awesome! And I am really hoping it happens. But if not, oh well. We will still go, still have a wonderful time and still love Disney World with or without the discounted rooms.

I agree with the folks who book what you can afford. We are at the WL in November, becoming our family's annual pilgrimage, and although we were hoping for a discount my DW and I both agreed that discount or not this is where we are comfortable and where we will stay. I have never been one of the lucky ones to snag the deep discounts at the deluxes. Believe me, I feel Disney is expensive and rack rate hurts but just keep in mind there are many, many folks who never have been made aware of these past discounts. While there will be a lucky few who will ultimately snag some type of nice discount the vast majority of those folks staying at your chosen location are paying rack or standard Disney package rates.
Don't give up folks, I'm sure there will be some type of discount or dining package offered to help ease the pain but I also believe that the past AP discounts were bound to come to an end due to some of the abuses of the past.

Cheers,

Schuey

again, I called and checked my rack rate room, which of course I will pay because we have no choice, tried to see if aaa rates were available, and non left, stated that they were told they still might release some. I am tired of watching so I am just going to know that we have to pay the 149 at por and enjoy our stay. it is a bonus anyway as we are staying at ssr for our first dvc trip and had to add two nights to coincide with the "cheaper" airfair from sw. My husband is cracking up that I extended our trip by two days just to save a few bucks on a flight. :dog: :goodvibes

Yes, I am bummed we are moving from the Poly to the POP(excited about the trip and pop I know it will be fabulous!) I did not originally book SOMETHING I COULD NOT AFFORD We just added an aniversery trip in Nov.AKL- so it would have been tight with two deluxe stays within a 6 week time frame! Our October trip is a GRAND GATHERING so it was booked in Feb. of last year. We were gonna split the stay between the pop and poly and share the love between 1 sis at each resort...Poly sis got a aaa rate Pop sis just did not want to spent the extra moolah...anyway with no ap discounts no poly for me! However there will be a party at the pop from the 12-22nd :goodvibes

We booked our longest stay at Dolphin because of no code/great rates.

We love the Dolphin so this isn't a problem. We are terribly disapointed with Disney reservation/discount management.

I did indeed switch to an offsite Hyatt for my last 2 nights.

I for one do not feel regular AP rates will be phased out. For the great majority of people that frequent Disney, AP's funnel alot of money back into Disneys system.

The first 5 years I started going. I bought a 7 day pass went once and that was that. Since I have started purchasing AP's. I have averaged 3-4 trips per year. EVERY year. That is my hotel dollars, snacks, food for 5 people.

Bottem line with the Ap around 10 grand is spent each year directly at WDW. Because the discounts have been historically so great. I have stayed on property. Thus my money has stayed on property.

It is very simple... if I can now stay offsite for less than half... I will rent a car and money spent on property will be funneled to the food store... to offsite dinner shows.... To the Burger King..... drive thru NOT, the electric umbrella..... Caseys, you name it. Guests will do what makes economic sense and what is easiest.

And Disney will do what is fiscally responsible.
It may be a cultural icon, but it is a Bussiness.

I haven't booked our stay yet but I'm thinking about changing from staying at the Poly to staying at a mod. No codes and the cost of gas is really making me take a second look at our plans.

I'm hoping people will switch resorts! We couldn't book our stay at the WL for the latter part of our trip in December because it's all booked up.
We're taking a cabin at Fort Wilderness instead, which is fine, but I love the Lodge.

Robinette, looks like DH and I will be at POR 16-22 and MNSSHP on the 20th! Too funny! Decided to cancel WL this time, but we are planning a quick trip before our AP's expire in January. Maybe then, if DH is working by then, we can stay at WL!!

On another note... I'm very worried about crowds. I'm hoping that the reason all the rooms appear booked is because people are holding out waiting for AP rates. But, when I go to normal "rack rate" reservations on the Disney site, only ASMu is available, Saratoga Springs, and FT Wild Cabins! eek. Just makes me think it's gonna be C R O W D E D !

I think a lot of the problem is those that book what they have no intention of using unless a discount comes out. If you have no intention of staying at a resort unless you get a discount then you really shouldn't book it until the discounts come out. JMO
I agree with you. I never booked a room until AP rate came out and I could see what the prices were. Then I booked a resort that was within my budget. :)
