switching resorts and transferring luggage

Moving from SSR to the Polynesian would you?

  • Have bell services transfer your luggage

  • Grab a cab, take your luggage and check in yourself

Trying to decide if I should take advantage of the luggage transfer when moving from SSR to the Polynesian. It would obviously be more convenient to check out and have the bell services do the transfer, head to a park and then return to the Polyneisan later and check in. But I have heard both positive and negative experiences regarding the delivery of the luggage to the new resort.

If you have used the luggage transfer was it positive an would you do it again or would you take the time to grab a cab and make the trip yourself with the luggage?

Thanks!
TJ

We did not use the baggage transfer service we did it ourselves and for us it was pretty easy. I just wanted to make sure that we had our lauggage when we wanted it. (yes control issue:rotfl: )

The luggage transfer service is easy, but I just prefer to do it myself. One drawback of the transfer service is that your luggae becomes unavailable to you during the several hours to do the transfer. If you do it yourself, even if your room is not available at the second resort, the luggage is stored there and can be accessed if needed. There is certainly a small thing, but does impact what I decide to do.

We used bell services to transfer our luggage last year and will be doing the same next month. It was painless. Don't hesitate to transfer your luggage this way.

Now if you have your own vehicle at WDW that is a different story.

I am leaning toward letting bell services do the transfer. Its just me, I am leaving the SSR pretty early in the am to spend the day at Epcot. I will probably head to the Poly around 6ish to check in and hopefully my bags will have arrived.

Is it reasonable to expect the bags by 6ish or have folks had them delayed longer than that?

I have not heard of this service - can you tell me more? Can you go ahead and check in without your luggage? We are transferring between Old Key West and Animal Kingdom, and I really hate to loose time at the parks by doing the whole grabbing-a-cab thing. Is this something you have to schedule ahead of time? Do they go ahead and put your luggage in your new room before you get back to the new facility? Or is it just held until you check-in?
Thanks for this thread!

Set this service up at your resort the day before. When you are ready to leave the next morning, call them and let them know. They will come and get the luggage. Go to your new resort sometime during the day to check in. According to bell services...your luggage should arrive between 3:00 and 4:00.

It's not necessary to do it the day before. My dad was sick, so we didn't plan to do anything the day we transferred, so we stayed in the Poly as late as possible. We called Bell Services at around 10:30, told them we were transferring to the AKL, and they took our bags and gave us a tag. We went out for a brunch off Disney property, drove around a bit, then arrived at AKL at 12:45. The bell services guy told us to give the bags until 4:00. The only problem we had was that our room wasn't ready. We just hung out until the room was ready, about 3:30, and when we got to the room, we called bell services even though it wasn't 4 yet, they brought the bags right up.
