Switching resorts after one night question

I am starting to look at flights to Orlando for our June trip and it seems that we can save major money if we fly out on Friday evening instead of Saturday morning.

My question is, if I book a room only at a value, how does my stuff get to the new hotel the next day? Do I just put it at luggage services and they move it for me? Do I have to get a taxi to move us? Do I hitch a ride on a DME bus?

Will we have to go to POFQ to officially check in before our tickets and meal plan works?

I am looking at any of the values but our package is for French Quarter. I know I have seen folks do this in their trip reports, but I cannot recall the process.

I have been reading and lurking around forever so Thanks for all the advise you can give!

If you are switching between Disney resorts, Bell Services will move it for you. Assume you will not see your things until evening, however, in the move.

Use online check-in for POFQ to get your meal plan and such kicking.

Bell services had warned me that it sometimes takes until 4pm, but i guess I've been lucky because it's never taken past 2pm. But it is advisable to keep swim suits or a change of clothes in your backpack with you in case it does take the full day to transfer the luggage.
I tip Bell services at both resorts.
Just go to a park in the meantime.

Or depending on the flight time you might want to stay at Hyatt inside MCO then take Magical Express in the morning.

I thought about the Hyatt, but for one night in June it is 350...I check values at 150 and POFQ is 250. I may actually do a one night separate reservation at POFQ, still cheaper than the Hyatt and still saves over 900 for flying in on Friday. The flight I am looking at gets in at 830 pm. We would pick up our luggage then hit the DME.

You can call bell services in the morning and arrange to have them transfer your luggage to POFQ, but do not expect your luggage to arrive until late afternoon so if there is anything you will need during the day, take it with you. Once you are in your room at POFQ you can call and have your luggage delivered to your room.

Or you can take a taxi and bring your luggage with you in the morning when you check into POFQ. If your room is not ready you can leave them with bell services and call for them once you are in your room.

DME is only for trips between MCO and your first resort so you cannot take it from the first resort to POFQ. You cannot take luggage on the Disney buses and they do not go directly from the value resorts to POFQ so your choices are bell services, taxi, or rental car.

I find it easiest to get up early and take my luggage by taxi to new resort, do early check in and leave luggage with Bell Service. At least I know my luggage will be there when I want it.

Follow on question- does this change if you are doing CL? Am debating doing the online check in so that we get the full welcome experience.

You should still get the full club level welcome service even if you do online check in. The benefit of online check in is that they will have an estimate of your arrival time and the check in process would go a little faster.

You are saving 900. Just add a night to pofq. Book the same type of room and ask that you not have to move. If you don't have to move it's not just the sleeping hours you get, but the time between checkout and checkin. Not having to repack or have different bags for that first night etc.

Booking a value is 150? But at pofq it's 250? You're still coming out ahead here. eta: it's 900 savings after booking another night at pofq??? Book it. :)

We've done this many times and bell services will move your luggage to your new resort. Just call them on the morning you are checking out of your first resort. You won't see your luggage at your new resort until 4pm or so (usually bell services will tell you this, too.) You can get to POFQ by getting on a bus at one of the parks. If you were looking for a more direct way to get to POFQ and wanted to bring your luggage with you, you could grab a cab. POFQ would then store your luggage for you, if your room wasn't ready yet. You will have to go to POFQ to check in, in order to get your park tickets and DDP. Enjoy your trip!

Doing online check in won't affect getting the CL arrival experience.
In our experience you still have to get escorted up to the CL level, even if you have gotten your room number

Can I piggy pack this post, too? We just added a room only night the Friday night before our package stay. We've already done online check in for both. So when we go to hit up Magic Kingdom around noon on Saturday, we should be good to go with both tickets and our dining plan?

As long as you're officially checked in at resort #2. Meaning either:

1. You have physically checked in
2. You have received a text stating that your room is not ready yet but you will receive a text with the room number when it is
3. You have received a text with your room number

So would it be better to stop at the second resort and actually check in? Does number 2 usually come by noon? (Or 3 for that matter, but I know there's no guarantee your room would be ready before check-in at 3). We weren't planning to go to the second resort until probably 5 in the evening.

For piece of mind, I probably would.

During online check in for resort #2, what time did you give for estimated arrival? If it was before Noon, you should get one of the texts by Noon.

I would ask them if they can activate your tickets when you check into the first resort. Then you won't have to stop at resort #2. If the answer is no, then you will know that you have to go to the second resort for a full check in.

When we changed resorts we never formally checked out of the first resort, we just packed our bags and took a taxi to the second resort. They were able to fully check us out of the first resort and check us into the second resort. We didn't have a package, though, so that wasn't a concern.

It's before noon now. :thumbsup2

For peace of mind, I may ask this when we check into resort 1, as well.

Thanks everyone! And sorry to thread-jack.
