Switching resort at 7 months mark

We have currently booked our home resort, to make sure to have anything, but would like to change to another resort, if possible, at the 7 months mark, when non-home resorts become available.

I haven't done this in a while, but in the past you had to call member services so they could hold the new resort while cancelling the old one and the reuse the liberated points to book the new resort for you.

Is this still the process to follow or is it now possible to do such switches online on your own?

You can modify the existing reservation online. It doesn't get canceled until you confirm the new booking.

Go online in the DVC Members app to your current reservation. Click on it. Click MODIFY. Search for your new reservation. Find the resort and unit and dates you want. Once you have everything you want, keep on stepping through the reservation. Only at the very end, when you CONFIRM, will it replace your old reservation with your new one, and it will switch your points over. If you need more points, it will tell you so. If you now use less points, it will return the unused problem to your account.
