Switching reservation to partial Developer's Points

Has anyone switched part of a reservation to using Developer's Points? If so, how did it work and did you run into any problems?

I am going to hit the 7 month mark on my AKV CV reservation (May) next week and since they extended developer's points to 1 year I will have some remaining. So I am toying with the idea of switching a day or 2 of my reservation to developer's points. But I don't want to risk loosing my AKV CV studio reservation.

Since Developer points can't be used before 7 months out, would you even be able to change the reservation at 7 months? Kind of like swapping out non-resort points for 11 months points. They might make you cancel and rebook and then you might lose the reservation.

That is exactly my fear! Since originally my points were only good for 7 months, I used all but 40 points on my reservation for this weekend and I assumed that I would loose the 40 points. When they extended the points to 1 year, other possibilities opened up, but I don't want to loose my reservation.

We did an add-on this summer and wanted to switch out and use our developer points for our already existing NYE ressie at SSR. We would then have about 70 developer points remaining to apply to a new trip in the next 12 months.

I called MS to do the switch and she advised against it b/c SSR was sold out. In order to use developer points she would have to "overbook" the resort and then hope that my ressie did not get away from us while she was contacting the developer department. I agreed with her that it was just too risky to try the switch and we left everything as it was. We ended up using all of the developer points to take an unplanned cruise trip, sort of like getting an extra vacation.

Now if I had been trying to do a switch for a time period that had plenty of availability then it would have been no problem to cancel the ressie and make a developer point ressie. If there is no other AKV availability for the dates that you want then I would leave your ressie just as it is. I would be scared to risk loosing what you already have, but that is me.
