Switching Reservation question

Maybe someone can answer a question for me.

I have seen referance several times on this board about people switching their reservation from one company to something like Dreams Unlimited.

2 questions.

What is the advantage of this?

And on the DU web site under the FAQ section it say they will not take a reservation that has already been made do to professioal coursety, so how is this being done?
