Switching (not adding) Driver at Alamo

I'm trying not to spend a lot of time on hold. Has anyone had experience changing a driver (not adding a driver) at the counter at Alamo? When I go to modify the reservation online, I'm afraid I'm going to lose the original reservation and the cost has doubled since I reserved.

We just did this with another rental company, Fox. We booked it under my name because I had found a cheaper rate and they wouldn't let us book 2 reservations under the same name and I didn't want to cancel the first one until the second one was booked. I also didn't want to change it online because I was worried about the rate changing on me. We had planned to both go to the counter and have it switched but our flight ended up being delayed and our kids were exhausted so kids and I went to the hotel while my husband went to the rental pick up. I just sent him all the info on the rental car and he had no issues at all picking it up even though it wasn't in his name on the reservation. Everything else (home address, phone number) matched the reservation. I think you should have no issues.

If the agency is short on cars....you gave them an out. Otherwise I agree. Of course the lower tier companies may charge a fee

We just did this with Budget. All I did was call and was on hold maybe five mins. I gave them the reservation number and they just switched the name on the reservation and sent me a new confirmation with the correct name. It was no problem at all.

Is the other driver a spouse? Alamo has a "spouse drives free" policy where you can both drive without a charge or without modifying the reservation.

No, family member. I wasn't paying attention when I booked cars that I put both reservations in my name.
