Switching hotels

We are book at the AKL 9/15-22. We have had a change of heart and really want to stay at the Contemporary. I called and they have rooms avaliable in the tower with a MK view. They said we would have to pay the hotel difference (obviously), AND buy new Park Hoppers for all. It had to be a "package". We were only going to stay there 3 nights of our trip, and just keep AKL for the first 4 nights since Contemp. didn't have rooms for one of the nights. Anyone heard of this? We have paid in full, and alot of money, for 3 families to go without buying all new Park Hoppers. I just feel like if I want to upgrade hotels, I should only be responsible for the difference in room rates.

Have you talked with a guest services manager or just the CM who answered the phone?

I think I'd try asking again for the 7 night package given the AKL construction staus right now anyway. Sometimes, rooms that might not show as available on the screens might be available with a call to the resort from GS. It never hurts to ask again as occupancy figures change continually.
In my experience, you normally are only responsible for the difference in price for the upgrade -assuming it's available.

I'm not sure why it would need to be a package unless you are using free dining or another package code but would think that even then your passes could be used after the AKL checkout assuming you had extra days left.
If not, I am assuming that the MYW from the AKL dates could be upgraded to add the additional days needed when switching to CR on a room only for the dates you wanted. Are there dates available for room only (without a package) that fit your schedule?

The problem comes in when you are booked in a package (DDP, hoppers, hotel).. which I am assuming you are with you AKL. If it was just a resort change (with no package) then you coul djus tpay the upgrade. An option would be if you wanted to do that, to drop the DDP for the end of your stay. Like if you stayed at AKL 4 nights with DDP, for those 4 days, and get 7 day hoppers, switch resorts (with resort only rate) and use your park hoppers... Make sense. I would keep calling availabity changes constantly... you might be able to get CR for the entire stay!
