Is it worth it????

I'll be there 12/19-12/24 and originally had plans to stay all nights at POFQ. However, our first choice was Shades of Green but they were booked solid. I just called SOG and they had a cancellation 12/19-12/22. So I booked it but now I'm concerned that switching hotels is going to soak up too much Disney time and is it really worth it????

Anyone out there switch? Would you recommend it?

Thanks!!!:sunny:

We've switched in the past and it wasn't really very time consuming. You pack your bags and the hotel transports them to the next Disney resort for you where you find them in your room when you check in.

But, you won't be able to charge back to your room until you check in and swimming can be difficult that day as your room may not be available until 4 pm. But spending a day in a theme park, going to your new hotel around 4 pm, checking in, and going for dinner is no big time drain.

AHHHHHHHHH didn't know they would transport your luggage. Great to know. That was a big concern.

Thanks!!:sunny:

You may want to double check if SOG participates in luggage transfer.

We've done a lot of switching during past trips and if the cost savings is great, I'd go for it. But our next trip is going to be at just one resort! It'll be tough, because I like to stay lots of different places!

I've never done it before but am planning on it for this upcoming Christmas trip. I'll be staying at Pop Century for 4 nights and then I plan on checking out and staying at the Swan for 3 nights. I don't think it'll take alot of time, even if I have to transfer my luggage myself. I figure I can get a cab, if nothing else, over to the Swan from Pop Century, go into the Swan and ask them to checkin the luggage and I'll just go off to one of the parks until check-in time. My BF is flying in to meet me and we'll be checking in together. So I'm thinking 1 hour tops to do the hotel transfer.

Some people love having the "double resort" experience on one trip. We thought it was more of a hassle....Checking in, Checking Out, Packing, Unpacking.....We had the feeling that we never really settled in. We also did not have enough time to really enjoy each individual resorts ammenities during our eight night split.
(Four at AKL 4 at Poly)

I would not do this again. I prefer to check in and stay! This is odd because I was the one who really wanted to do a split stay and convinced my family to do so.

Each trip, a new resort certainly works better for us.

:D

We couldnt get all of our nights in the same hotel with AP this trip. So we are going to switch after the first 3 nights. Going from Dolphin to AKL. This is not something I have ever wanted to do. I think I will pack a small suitcase for the first 3 nigths and let the larger one in the car until we check in at AKL.

we were going to do akl for first week and wl for second , a few days into akl i checked at the desk and they were able to keep us thru the end of our vaca, ( with no addtl fees for switching) doesnt hurt to ask. the girl at the desk told me central reservations isnt always up to date with room availability that you should always check when you arrive. ( and we were able to keep the AP rate as well) hope this helps...

We are planning on switching after 1 week from the Dolphin to Hard Rock so we can take advantage of the no wait at Universal. We stayed there after a cruise last July and on the 4th it was 5-10 min wait on everything. I think it is worth it to switch. So instead of going to a water park we will do the pool at Dolpin in the morning, switch and the pool at the hard rock in the afternoon. We are going in June

We have done a couple split stays and although our first one was great (4 days at BC and 5 days at Poly), the second one seemed more rushed (3 days at WL and 4 days at Poly). Of course, we had to deal with a hurricane during the second one and that changed some of our plans.

Our practice is to pack up and take our own luggage to the second hotel, checking in early in the morning. That way we can have our keycards to charge on throughout the day. This year, though, we didn't feel good that morning and so called bell services for the transfer. It went well. If I had no choice (like only getting SOG for a few days), I would do the split stay, but I feel you need at least 4 days at each site to really make it worth it and fun.

This response depends on your family and if you charge to your room card.

My experiences with this have been okay. In the past, I have mostly had split stays wherein I would be offsite so many days then onsite so many days. I have also had stays onsite where I checked into two different resorts and haven't had any problems. However, at the most we are 2 adults - no children and it is easy for us to quickly pack everything back up and have the luggage transferred by bell services. I also don't use my card to charge on (I occasionally do for the larger part of my stay - last hotel moved to but this is iffy).

I always find that repacking doesn't take the amt of time that it did when I was home as my clothes have already been picked out and I generally only pack for 4 to 5 days and will wash my clothes there. Now my last few trips have been for 8 to 10 days each with at least one to two moves each time. It can be a small hassle to wait in line to recheck back in but I haven't had overlong waits (if you checkin earlier in the a.m. and call for your room in p.m you shouldn't have a long wait at all). Now if your a family of 4 or 5 people (with small children) this may not be feasible for you. IMO, I do like to experience two different resorts and in fact will be doing this in 12 days.
