Hi Folks,
We are checking into a OKW 1BR on a Sunday and we will be joined by another family on Thursday. At that time we will need a 2BR unit. So when we check in on Sunday we will obviously need a lockoff. Is this something that can be guaranteed by linking the two reservations together or is there a chance that we would need to move to a different unit when our friends arrive? If it matters, all of the points being used are mine and both reservations will be in my name.

Thanks

There is a chance you will have to move. Have it noted on the reservation that you would like to keep the same room. Hopefully the resort won't be very close to max occupancy during that period. If they are, you'd be relying on the resort's ability either to fill the adjoining studio with guests leaving the day you get the 2B, or their ability to leave the room vacant for the days you just have the 1B.

We are doing this in September. We have a 1 bed for 16 nights at OKW. For 5 nights in the middle of the trip our friend is joining us so we have upped it to a 2 bed lock off for those 5 nights. MS said they they will request we stay in the same unit but cannot guarantee it. We should remind them at check in too. For us it is 3 seperate bookings as the unit size changes ie) 1 bed then 2 bed/ then 1 bed again, we weere given different confirmation numbers for each portion. Even if we get to keep the room we will need to check out and in again at the front desk for new keys etc. It sounds like a pain, but if I had booked a separate studio for my friend it would be more points and we could be some distance apart.

I am sure the front desk will try for us, but we shall see. Fingers crossed.....

Thank you both for your replies. So my next question is when do you find out if you have to move - at the original check in or the day your reservation changes? It sounds like it will be the day of the change. :earseek:

One time we knew at the time of the reservation that we would be switching from a 2 bedroom to a 1 bedroom mid trip, so we asked for lock-off when we reserved at the 11 month window. We did NOT have to move and were told that when we checked in. That, however was in January at OKW. I suspect this time of year OKW is at capacity, so I wouldn't hold my breath. When I reserved a studio for the first night of our upcoming New Years trip, they asked if I was expecting to not move, and I said I did NOT expect a lock off with no move. In fact, we prefer a dedicated because of the extra storage room.

For this busy season, I think it will be a crap shoot, and you probaby wont know until the morning of the change.

We have done this a few times and never had to move to another unit. Once I asked ahead of time and the other time I forgot to ask, but it worked out well anyway. If they can link the reservations and are not at capacity, they will do so. Try to call them the evening before you are moving to ascertain what your chances are. It doesn't hurt to gently remind them! ;)
