We are still sorting out our plans to go to Aulani this Oct or Nov. We currently have Oct booked but may switch to first week of Nov. We only have enough points for 7 nights in a 1 bedroom garden or island view. Is it crazy to stay the first few nights in a studio and switch to a 1 bedroom for another 4 or 5 nights (to stay 8 or 9 nights total) How much of a hassle would it be and has anyone else done it?

Certainly it's not crazy...many do something similar.
You might want to see if you wouldn't save more points by not spending Friday/Saturday nights in the 1 Bdrm. I haven't looked at Aulani's point charts, but I'm sure they charge more points on weekend nights than weeknights.

The hassle isn't too bad (what is if you're in HI! :rotfl: ) but I'd plan on having a plan for the days you're moving, that way incase your new room isn't ready you'll be perpared for it.

That's kind of what I thought. Check out load up our stuff and maybe do a road trip or something that day and come back mid afternoon.

I've been studying the point charts very intently.

We have done this at HHI - The resort staff were great - we had stuff to put in the refrigerator and they kept it for us so it didn't go bad - we packed up our bags and left them at the front desk to store them while we were out that day - didn't need to put them all into our car. We did it twice in the same vacation!

It's not the most relaxing because you are having to pack/unpack, but to save points and stay longer - it was worth it.

Ditto on above though - the points on weekends are very high..

We are doing that....not in Hawaii though!
First few nights, Fri. and Sat. in a studio to save points and then moving to 1 bedroom on Sun.-Thurs.
I am thinking I will live out of suitcase pretty much for first day or two so I don't need to repack too much. Also have laundry in 1 bedroom so we aren't bringing a lot of stuff. Have a great time!

Aulani's points are the same Sun-Sat. AFAIK the only DVC to do that.

WE did it last summer--3 nights at BCV in a studio and then 3 nights in the 1 bedroom at BLT.

It was not that big of a deal for us. We checked out, went to MK, went to the DVC presentation at BLT, and by the time it was done, our BLT room was ready. It did allow us to stay 6 nights instead of 5.

Good luck!!!
