Hello. Just a quick question I need help with. So far, I've always paid my dues annually. I was thinking of switching to monthly for 2016. Is it true you can only have them monthly if you them direct debited from your account? I was under the impression that you just paid them normally along with your monthly payment. Thank you for your help.

Monthly dues payments are separate from any monthly loan payment. If you want to pay dues monthly, it must be setup as a direct debit from a US bank account.

You must set up direct debit from a US bank account.

It makes sense when you think of it this way:

If you pay your dues in full at the start of the year Disney gets your share of the money needed to run the resort for the entire year at the start of the year. In exchange for paying in full at the beginning of the year, Disney allows you to use a credit card (even though they lose some money on the transaction) or a check and allows you to pay as late as Feb 15th without penalty.

If you pay your dues monthly, Disney gets the money just as it's needed to pay the staff salaries and maintain the resort. In exchange for "paying as you go" they want to get your payment on time and at the lowest cost, via direct debit.

ok, thank you for confirming!

We have ours set up monthly, as well as our loan, so there are two same-day debits from our account each month. Simple.

Besides helping with budgeting, one pays in after the fact when done monthly instead of all at once in Jan. Having it set automatically would seem to be a small compromise for the other benefits.

I've heard that you just shouldn't let it be refused, i.e. overdrawn as The Mouse will then cancel any vacations you have reserved... Make sure the $$$ are there or have overdraft protection. I heard this in the context of someone losing a rental via David's as the owner bounced the monthly payment...

I have my account set up with the monthly withdrawal. In the middle of the year last year, I was able to pay off all of my remaining charges for the year via credit card on the website. BTW, I have multiple contracts and I did this for all four of them.

We have ours set up for monthly pay which we prefer as it is less stressful on the budget. :)

Do I need to call to get on the monthly plan? It is there a way to choose it online that I'm missing?

I don't think so. When I set it up for monthly, I had to send a voided check but that was a long time ago.

You need to call Member Accounting (option 3) and they will tell you what you need to fax over to setup monthly direct debit of dues.

Thank you! Also, when we switch to monthly can we still pay it off in a lump sum a few months in? I'd like to take our tax return and pay it off but we probably won't get it until after the grace period.

My understanding is you cannot make a large, lump sum payment mid cycle unless you're paying it off. So, yes, you can pay it off. But, if your tax return isn't enough to cover the whole thing, you'll have to wait or find more money.

Thanks! Yes, it'll be enough to cover the dues, I just want to make sure there's no penalty for paying it off once you switch to monthly. Thanks again!
