Switching DC ressies??

I am going to book our room thru DC for this November however if something comes along later thru DC with a better discount how easy will it be to switch the ressie? Do they just cancel the first one and then apply the money you have sent on your new ressie? What if there is a better deal/code thru disney, can I book that thru DC and have them apply my money or would I have to cancel with DC and book thru CRO? If so would DC just refund my money to my credit card? Do they do the refund immediately or is it a wait and a hassel? Anything else I should know about switching ressie when booking thru DC? I do have the guidelines as to far out you can cancel/change without a fee.

We cancelled our DC ressie for last February when AMEX came out with a discounted rate. I had to cancel our DC ressie and rebook through CRO with a new deposit. DC credited our payment back to our credit card (Discover) and it showed up within a week (I checked our Discover account online so I wouldn't have to wait for the next bill to see if we were credited.) You can also check with your credit card company by phone to see if it is credited. FYI, Discover said that WDW has always been very prompt and correct with their credits. ~~
