Switched resorts - Tell me I did the right thing!

We're doing a quick trip in January so DH can run the marathon. I had booked Contemporary garden wing room thinking the ease of being able to walk to the MK to see DH run would make up for the less appealing theming.

I just couldn't get excited about CR so today I switched to the Poly. Will that be a problem for the marathon? I know we can walk to the TTC to monorail over to Epcot but DH wants the kids to watch him run in the MK. WIll the monorail or boats be working early enough to get over there? Tell me I did the right thing.

We stayed at ASMo last years race, rode bus with DS to EPCOT. He went to get settled and we took monorail to TTC. They were not going to start stopping the monorails at the MK until I think 5:45, so we got on (it was 4:45) and just rode in circles for the hour. About 5:30 people began to get on at Poly (you don't need TTC) and then we stopped at MK, got off, went in and had front row seats on Main Street. Was awesome ! Had shops open so we got some food and settled in. Only downside is they have music playing extremely loud and when we asked why they said it was because once runners start coming through they need it loud for them to hear it. Was a great experience and DS had no trouble seeing us when he ran through. PS If DH has a bright shirt, you can spot as he approaches it will help you see him, seemed to be mostly white, blue and black running through.

Actually riding the monorail is going to much easier than the walk from CR, there you would even have to walk across the race path. And I'm with you - now you have theme

Sorry, I'm not a veteran marathoner, but I sure do think you did the right thing. The transportation doesn't seem like it will be a problem.

I think the CR is about the most depressing resort on Disney property, especially the garden wings. They remind me of concrete bunkers, with no pretense to being attractive at all. The Poly is so lush and beautifully landscaped, with a terrific location. Have a great time!

I totally agree with Pooh. You did the right thing by far. Although I have never stayed at CR, I have stayed at the Poly many many times and love it. I have never had the desire to stay at the CR. I love to visit and do Chef Mickey's but I doubt I will ever choose to stay there. I much perfer th Poly and WL a million to one!!!!! CR is too modern and cold for me. JMO.
