Switch Resorts at Check-In?

Hi,

I am wondering if anyone has been able to switch from a mod to a deluxe at check-in. Were arriving at POR in 4 days and would really like to upgrade to a deluxe... if you have done this, was there any special offer or did you just pay the difference as if you had booked the deluxe in the first place? I hear a lot of people have been upgraded to AKL, Poly etc for 10-30 dollars per night.

The only time I have heard of people upgrading from a moderate to a deluxe for $10 to 30 a night is when the resort was overbooked for some fluke of a reason....I would not bank on that one....

I have heard of people changing resorts after arriving because they were not happy with their choice of resort for one reason or another,,,but never heard of anyone switching at check in....Where would you go?? I would feel a little silly going to the desk at POR to say, hey I know I have a reservation here at this hotel, but I was wondering if I could just really check in at another one!!

If you would really rather be at a deluxe and you know this then I would try to make those plans before I left. Unless of course it doesn't really matter and then if there is no room or the price isn't right you still have something at POR. If this is going to really ruin the trip for it to not work out then I'd call and see if 1) there is anything available 2) if the price is something I was interested in and 3) if it was even an option for your situation (ie discount, package change policy etc)

We have added days on at check in... but have never switched resorts when it wasn't already planned as a split stay.

PO is a wonderful resort, both have great lanscaping quiet pools etc. Many people who have stayed at Deluxe also like the PO resorts. If you think you want a Deluxe instead, like the others have said call now and get the upgrade, don't count on going and getting an upgrade to a deluxe for so little money.

It was several years ago but we switched from one All Star to another at check in. They could not give us a non-smoking king as we had requested. I asked if they would check to see if one was available at one of the others. The CM was great, checked at other resorts, found one for us, and told them we were coming over. They switched over the payments I had made in advance to the new resort. Of course this was back when they had plenty of folks working the check in / customer service area.

That being said I would still follow the other folks advice call before you leave to see if you can get something worked out. If it does then it saves you hauling yourself and luggage to the check in desk and back out to transfer to the other resort.

We are more than happy at POR, just wanted to know if anyone had the luck in being upgraded before. We'll have a great time no matter what!
