Hi.
My family and I canceled a holiday to Mexico. For obvious reasons.
But is it true there's been 2 confirmed cases of it in FL WDW?
We were going to change the holiday to there..
What are peoples suggestions?

According to the CDC there are now 3 cases in the state of Florida. We are still going to Disney World. We will wash our hands and I bought some extra alcohol based hand sanitizer today. We leave in 19 days. I would suggest you do what you feel is best for your family. But looking at the CDC website ( http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/) it looks like most states have cases of the swine flu.

I would go..UNLESS you live in a closed school district with suspected or confirmed cases. Then I would just stay home

The last time I checked (yesterday), the two confirmed cases, at that time, were in counties not close to WDW. One was Broward County, and the other was in Palm County - neither of which are really close to Orlando.

Here's what I found just now:

"As of Sunday, May 3, three cases of swine flu have now been confirmed in Florida, the Associated Press reports. A 14-year-old Mexican girl visiting her family in central Florida is the state's third confirmed case. Her family did not catch the virus because she stayed in her room, wore a mask and took the antibiotic Tamiflu. The girl has fully recovered and has since returned to Mexico."

Also, there are 15 suspected cases, apparently,

"Florida health officials said there were 15 more probable cases of swine flu in nine counties: Alachua, Clay, Indian River, Lee, Okeechobee, Pinellas; two each in Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties and five in Hillsborough County."

Hillsorough is a little closer, I think - it's that the Tampa Bay area? Is WDW in Orange County? It doesn't look like there are any there yet.

my daughter's school here in Hillsborough County, FL has been closed for this week due to possible swine flu...we're being told to stay out of the parks :(

Just confirmed today that a girl in Orange County (visitor) had swine flu, and has since recovered. When she got sick, she stayed in her hotel room (of course we don't know where that is!!!), and her whole family stayed quarantined at the request of the health department. They did the right thing, thank you! Her case was mild and they have completely disinfected her room/hotel.

Because this flu is milder than expected (oh gee, what a surprise), people proabaly aren't reporting it when they're sick - they feel yucky and don't go to the doctor.

Having said that, we were supposed to go to the park today but didn't. No sense being around lots of tourists who could have easily been in Mexico. We will go another day.

I would go and not worry about it. If you do happen to get sicj it will be more of an inconvinence than anything, just like getting sick from anything else in WDW. It is no more sever than the regular flu we get every year and actully seems to be shorter in duration. Nothing to worry about in terms of getting deathly ill. The concern is that we as Americans have not been exposed to this particular virus so more peple will likely get sick form it than in an average flu season.

There is one confirmed case in the Orlando area. It was a 14 year old girl visiting from Mexico. They said that she spent most of the trip in her hotel room wearing a mask. None of her family became ill. She was treated and recovered. She has now left the area. There have been no other confirmed cases in the Orlando area.

I would go, at this point it could be anywhere. It is just another type of flu virus, nothing to panic about! Handwashing is your best defense against the virus.
