My parents JUST got back from a 7-day carribbean cruise on Sunday. My dad got real sick about half way through the trip, as did several others on the boat in their travelling party. mom got sick at the last day or two. Today they both went to the doctor and both tested positive for H1N1. My dad is really bad right now. Both of my parents are older (dad is 63) and my father has SEVERE asthma/COPD. He is waiting for the results of the chest x-ray they sent him for. Dr said his lungs sound awful and they're hoping it doesn't become pnuemonia (which my father's father DIED from....my dad actually had to give the order to "pull the plug" years ago).

I'm worried about them both...particularly since they are 600 miles away and I can't help them.

Dad also called the cruise-line today to inform them of their diagnosis so that they can do whatever quarantine/cleaning etc for the crew and alert other passengers from that trip if necessary.

Aye yay yay...

I know the stress of being so far away from family when they are sick.....best wishes to you, and your parents. Hope they make a full and speedy recovery!

Best wishes to your folks. It hits kids hardest right? Maybe your folks will be over it really soon. I hope so.

Hoping for a speedy recovery.
Are there any family members close by that can look in on them?
Please keep us updated!

prayers for you guys.

I am so sorry.

Keep us posted. We will pray for you guys.

I think th cruise was celebrity but I am not sure. I have two sisters up there who can chip in, but I dunno...not to be all down on them...they just aren't as "nurturing" I guess. Normally I would say, oh it's just the flu, even with swine flu, but my dad has such respiratory problems. When they talk about people who should NOT be exposed to or wind up with swine flu, my dad is practically the poster child.

Luckily, mom isn't as bad, yet. I think she'll bounce back pretty quick.

I'm hoping that both of your parents get well soon. Please keep us updated on their health.

I too will pray for a speedy recovery. It sounds like his doctor is doing the right things. I would tell your dad that if he feels worse, head to the hospital and not wait. He already has the confirmation that it's H1N1. I'm sorry that this is happening to your family. God speed.

The doctor hasn't (never?) called back with the results of the chest x-ray today. My mom "assumes" that means there wasn't anything wrong. I told her the same thing the poster above said...if he even thinks he is getting worse or feels even a little off, she should call an ambulence (since she's pretty weak now too) and go to the ER.

Oh my, I can only imagine how concerned you must be for your dear parents, specially your Dad with his compromised health situation . Good they are under drs care, but I hope they won't hesitate to call your siblings or an ambulance if they feel any worse. I'm sending lots of prayers dear that they will both be ok and have complete recovery. Godspeed ^i^

I'll be sure to keep your family in my prayers.. Is your dad up to date on his pneumonia vaccine? If so, hopefully that will help somewhat.. So far I haven't been able to get a straight answer from anyone on that in regards to the pneumonia associated with Swine Flu.. I'm a "poster child" too - COPD along with several other health issues - and will be 60 tomorrow.. I'm up to date on my pneumonia vaccine, but still haven't decided what to do about the H1N1 vaccine..

From what I've read, your parents illness could change very, very rapidly, so please encourage them to go the ER the SECOND anything seems worse..

::yes::

Please ask your Mom and Dad to call 911 if he is short of breath and not hesitate to go to the ER.

Still praying for you guys.

Be sure and tell your parents NOT to mess around- if your Dad gets worse go to ER immediately. DS13 got H1N1, then pneumonia which turned out to be antibiotic resistant. He is very healthy, is a long distance runner, and NEVER gets sick- and he ended up in the hospital (and his xcountry season is toast!).
With your dad's health problems, he needs to be careful.

OTH, DS13 is fine now- took him about a month to get back into running shape- lost about 10 pounds and he was already adolescent + long distance runner skinny with no body fat. BUT- he did recover quickly once the anitbiotics kicked in, although it took a few weeks to get back into running shape.

We will keep your dad (and mom and YOU) in our prayers- this flu may not be something to panic over, but it really CAN be dangerous and you never know whom it may strike.

Take care and stay well yourself!!!!
