Swimsuits???

Where can I go to find a plus sized swimsuit that doesn't look like my grandma would wear? I need a store to walk into because I need to try it on.

Any suggestions?

I can't even find a one-piece that doesn't look grandma. I guess they think that all young women have anorexic looking bodies and/or like to wear bikinis that don't even cover half of what underclothes cover.

I bought my last swimsuit from Goody's. I'm a size 22 so I know how hard swimsuit shopping can be! This one does have a skirt attached but it has palm trees on it and is sparkly, so I don't feel that it looked "grandmotherly". I'm only 26, so I don't want to look that way!!

I think Target has some great plus size tankinis.

I am plus size, and I think tankinis are more flattering (if possible) than a regular one piece.

I think Land's End has a good selection--but I'm not sure how many (if any) styles are available to try on in Sears stores.

Not yet, I've looked at my store and online at a couple places but I haven't been able to get out there looking yet. I just need too and soon.

Don't they have a virtual model too? You can create a model based on your dimensions and they can give you a general idea of what you would look like in the outfit or swimsuit.

I've found my last two at JC Penney. It's pricey but try to catch a sale. One of mine lasted three summers.

Places I've checked:

Wal-Mart: Surprisingly good selection. Good for sporty options
Target: A bit more fashion-forward, but flimsy, IMO. Lots of separates.
Lane Bryant: Expensive!!! Well-made, lots of separates. Up to date styles, not many options if you have a long torso.
Catherine's: Fairly expensive, large grandma selection, but a few winners. Good quality.
Fashion Bug: Cheaper and the "youngest" of the bunch. Not great quality, but if you get a new suit every year it's not a problem. Lots of choices.

If you buy the ones from disneyshopping.com, they run 2, usually three sizes bigger.

Also, tankinis are VERY flattering for bigger girls. I love the last three I've had. Two of them have come from Disney shopping, although I had to learn to buy smaller.

If you wear an 18 or a 20, PM me. I've got a nice turquoise Tink tankini that I bought last year that is huge that wasn't even worn. I bought a 14, thinking 2 sizes would be enough smaller. It wasn't. Then I lost weight and bought a 10. Now that's big, too.

I was surprised that the best place I found them was at Kohl's. They had a pretty good selection. I looked at Target this year, but I was not happy with what they had out there, it just didn't look good on me. I did see one at Macy's that I liked but it was $100!

Poohnatic, I didn't realize that disney shopping ran big on their sizes, maybe I will check out their site again. Thanks for the tip!
