Hi all! I just assumed there is no swimming in the Seven Seas Lagoon. However, I recently saw a photo of a couple of kids wading in the lagoon at the Poly. They looked like they were about 4 or 5 feet from shore. So, is there swimming in the lagoon? Will my kids glow green if they play too close to the lagoon with a pale and shovel? Thanks! Sandra

There are signs at the beach at the Polynesian that say No Swimming but some people ignore the signs and wade in anyway.

Years ago people including my family did swim at the Polynesian and Fort Wilderness and I'm sure the CR although we've never stayed there. They had ropes up to indicate the swimming areas. There are lots of theories about why it is no longer allowed but I can say the water is not nearly as clear as I remember it being years ago. I know clear doesn't necessarily mean clean.

However your children can still have lots of fun in the sand and whatever the reasons for banning swimming it must not be so bad because the last I knew you could still waterski.

Do you think walking along the shore kinda, sorta in the water would be okay? It's not swimming, it's just getting feet wet. I think my kids would love that. I don't think they would be interested in doing laps in the lagoon, but getting their feet wet and splashing would be fun. S

I think that will be fine - I believe there is a prior thread somewhere that the major reason for no swimming may be related to some bacteria that can appear in Florida inland lakes???

thanks
Jason

The water is not toxic, and even if it was, there is nothing draining into the lagoon that would make anything glow green (the nearest nuclear power plant is Turkey Point, I believe, and in no way connected)... That being said, the lagoon has been and is, from time to time, home to alligators. Close supervision, feet only, and certainly no heads in the water (that's what the pool at your hotel is for) should be fine. Definitely check with a CM on or near the beach or at the front desk before you do anything, though.

we rented a pontoon boat and I actually seen alligators in this water. So I would not let my kids go swimming or even get to close...
