We are heading down to POP Jan 01-08. My DD is asking about swimming, I assume it will be too cold but is that a correct assumption? Are the pools heated?

Another question; We are driving down and want to visit a few resturants at other Dis resorts but not ones that may need reservations. Can we drive into those resorts or will we have to keep with buses?

Thank you!

I can kind of answer part of your question...We went last January and there were definitely days when you could have swam with out worrying about having a heated pool..There were also days when it was quite cold and we wore heavier jackets....The weather was a bit unpredictable...

We swam in January this year at the AKL. The pool was heated and there were some days that were too cold for us but everyday there was always some one in there. In the evening, you see the steam rising off the waters surface. I'm sure they must heat the POP pool too.

All DIS hotels have parking lots and you can use them for free since you are staying onsite. Buses are there as an option too, but you are not compelled to use them.

January is a crap shoot. I've been at WDW when it was 84 and I've been there when the daytime high hit at whopping 53.

The pools are heated, but you've still got to get out of them Brrrrrr...

I'd pack suits but don't be surprised if it's too cold to use them.

Depending on your tolerance for temp's and how lucky you are, it is indeed possible to go swimming in January. The pools are heated and if you are from the north, you'll find the daytime temps can get to a very comfortable level. Of course, you could also hit a cold streak.

we have gone to POP several times in january & every trip we've gotten atleast one day of swimming in...& yes the pool is heated !!!:earboy2: :earboy2: :earboy2: :earboy2:

We were there this past January. We went to Blizzard Beach and swam like it was June. Not even a nip in the air. Two days later it was maybe 60 degrees and we were were in long sleeves and hoodies. Thankfully, I had packed just about piece of clothing we owned because we weren't sure about the temps. Be prepared for anything!

We had no problem with the pool temp, it was heated, but it's a loooooong walk back to the room wet when it's 50 degrees and the wind blows down the corridors of Pop Century. Pack or buy a bathrobe if it's nippy.
