Swimming in December?

Does anyone even go in the pools in early December? Should I add some swimming time to our plans or is it to cold?

I think it is totally unpredictable, but I would certainly plan on swimming. Last Dec. 27-Jan.4th it was 80 and sunny every day and we swam all the time! Have fun

It does totally depend on the weather - the pools are all heated to 80 but if it's chilly out - it's a bit cold getting in pool. I can say I was there late Dec - Jan last year and I spent part of New Year's Eve at Blizzard Beach - it was really warm for Winter.

Besides there are hot tubs at several of the resorts that make packing a bathing suit a good thing.

When this question has been asked before, in general the people from the north go swimming in December and the people from the south do not. We northerners are just so darn happy to leave our frozen tundra that the mid-60's seems like a little slice of heaven. Plus, the pools are heated so you only get cold when you get out.

We always swim in December. We're from Wisconsin.

I certainly hope it's warm enough the first week of December to get one or two days in. This is our first trip in December. Being from Buffalo, the warm weather was always much welcomed even if it was in the 90's. I'm certain it will be warmer than here in December but somehow flying to Florida and not being able to swim would be a bummer! We always spend our afternoons at the resort swimming and head back to the parks for dinner. I will admit, my current itinerary does "not" include pool time . We're keeping our fingers crossed that we see some sun and heat .

I have had 9 vacations to WDW in December. I always used the pool, but in the late evening only. Yes - it is a bit chilly getting out of the pool and walking back to the room.
Even though it was a bit chilly, there was always quite a few people in the pool and the hot tub. If it is *really* chilly, there will be steam rising from the pools, which is a really neat thing to see. The pools are all heated, and the feeling is wonderful to be in a heated pool when the air is a tiny bit nippy.

a couple of times it was so warm you'd be nuts not to use the pool.

Last year we had some chillier weather on our "pool days" we were at the beach club and dog gone it - we were going to get in SAB no matter what - it was freezing running out to go down the slide but we had a ball. People were walking by us with jackets wrapped up to their necks - they must of thought we were nuts but it was a lot of fun!

Definitely plan on swimming, and bring some nice WARM cover-ups. We swam 2 out of 4 days last January, and all 4 days in Dec. 2001. One Jan. day the lifeguards were wearing parkas, but there were people swimming.

I think it's really hit of miss in December with the weather. We were there from 12-27 to 1-3 last year. In the weeks before we left people were reporting buying sweats, hats and mittens in the parks they were so cold for the night time shows. We wore shorts the whole time and went swimming just about every day. One evening we wore light sweatshirts with our shorts but that was it. That's life here in the South though!

Well I'm from Maryland and there is no way I'd be swimming in December at WDW. We go in October now and there are days that are just too darn chilly to swim. We were there last week and there were two days that we felt like we were frozen while in the pool. There was a stiff breeze going that made it less then enjoyable to be in the water even though it was heated. Personally if we go to WDW in December we won't plan on swimming! LOL!

We're from the Saratoga, NY area and are headed to Disney 12/3-12/11. You can bet we'll be in the pool at some point!!

We have a hot tub and go outside to go in it when it's snowing out, so I think we can tough it out!

We too have a hot tub and go outside in it when it snows. That is the only way to go with a hot tub! To me, swimming in a pool that is only 80 degrees is a HUGE difference then swimming in a hot tub that is 104. I freeze in those WDW pools even with the temps go to 70s outside.

We're southerners (NC, does that count as southern enough?) and we've gone swimming on our Dec and Jan trips. We've also had days where we wouldn't go near the pool, because it was rainy and 50s at best. Hope for good weather, and go for it!
