Swimming after an "unscheduled cleaning"

You know...those "unscheduled cleanings" that happen from time to time. Why do they always seem to originate in the shallow end of the pool?!?

So what do you do? Do you wait a while them dive back in? Or does an "unscheduled cleaning" mean that your swimming in that pool is done for the day?

Disney closes the pool for the day when those little problems surface. LOL

We were at the CR a few years ago and they had closed the pool cause someone "dropped the kids off" My niece was totally mesmerized and wanted to see the poop. LOL We kept telling her that it was already gone but she couldn't stop talking about it. LOL

They didn't last year at POP. The bowling pin pool needed to be cleaned, so we moved to the Hippy Dippy pool. On our way back to our room an hour or so later, people were back in the bowling pin pool.

I'm a lifeguard and if that happens in one of our pools, we have to close the pool and jack up the chemicals to kill any bacteria. Once the chemicals have returned to a stable level all around the pool, its safe to open back up. By law the pool chemicals have to be regulated and safe for people to swim, so it really depends on how "bad" the accident was and how long it takes the chlorine levels to be back to normal (or a little higher, to kill more germs )

Had this happen last August at the All Star Movies pool while my DD was in the pool! I hauled her out of there and up to our room to give her a decontamination that would have put the CDC to shame. We didn't go in the pool again at all after that (we were leaving the next day anyway). I still can't make myself stay at the All Star Movies because of that 'Caddyshack' incident.

haha we were probably in there that same day! We were at asmo in august when it happened eww!! I didn't let my kids back in either!!

When there are lots of small kids, it happens a LOT. A lot of parents overestimate their kids level of control.

Ugh! That is why Huggies invented swim diapers. When my kids were babies I had them is swim diapers and changed them regularly. Honestly, we never spend that much time in the pool during a Disney vacation. When DD 5, was a baby, we brought her back to the room to nap every afternoon instead of bringing her to the pool. I had even packed two packages of swim diapers and never used them! I did see a kid vomiting at Stormalong Bay once. Fortunately, he had just stepped OUT of the pool.

This happened to us at the YMCA during swim lessons a couple years ago. Everyone had to get out of the pool and they had to cancel the pool for the rest of the day. We went back the next week.

If we are at WDW and want to swim, I would go to a quiet pool.

If Disney has reopened the pool you may rest assured it's clean. You can test the water and Disney actually a multiple testing system that continually tests the water in "numerous" areas of the pool. Unlike you home pool where you test at one spot only. .

On my goodness, this thread has me laughing so. My kids are all grown, but I too admit, they wore a diaper (cloth and rubber pants) until they were able to use the potty. When a little one says "I have to go potty" you RUN to the nearest potty!!!

As soon as they opened the pool I would go in it or let my kids in it. They can't open it if it isn't safe. And safe is safe.

I agree with the poster who said it depends on the accident, if it is formed and scoopable it is easy to clean up and the water won't be contaminated the same way as if it is in liquid form-which is why it is more important for babies to be in swim diapers because of the consistency and mixability. If "it" was formed and scooped immediately it may not have contaminated the water hardly at all and a single cycle of extra chemicals may be all that is needed.

Ugh. I'm not much of a pool person, but I think I would spend the rest of the day in a different pool. I'm glad I'm staying at CBR because they have a bunch of small pools to pick from.

Boy did I need this laugh !!! Code BROWN!!! Too funny Anyway, I signed my son up for our local pool club last year and according to him, they had two Brown-Outs. He was laughing so hard because he knew who did it.

We used to belong to a swim club along the shore and there was a kiddie pool that they emptied several times a day - and cloroxed EVERY night. EEEWWW.

Personally, though, if the pool was OD'd on chemicals to kill the bacteria, then when it was re-opened it should be safe to swim in.

Let's not kid ourselves, unfortunately, it's not always kids!
It can happen to anyone (diarrhea, drunken slobs, etc) It's so convenient on those occassions to blame your kids!
