Hi,

I am new to this board and already I've found some great advice on it. DS is 18 next month, but my niece (I have custody) is 3 months! It's a shock to be parenting again.

Quick question on swim diapers - we are taking her to Disney 10/30 - 11/4. Do they sell individual swim diapers at the water parks or in the hotels, or do you have to buy a whole pack? I don't think she'll have much need for them once we're back in NJ.

Thanks!

I don't recall seeing individual swim diapers for sale anywhere on property...we were there for 7 days last month at POR. I had purchased a package of the smallest size at Walmart and packed them in our luggage. I could be wrong, but my memory says not available onsite one at a time.

Yes, most resorts and water parks do sell them, it is 1:50 for each diaper. You would be better of getting 12 of them for 7$ like the sell in the store and bring half of them with you. If you go swimming more then one time you will want more then one, maybe even more then one for a baby of that age for only one trip to the pool.

Word of warning, they can be hard to get on a baby of that age. When DD was young we found 2 adult aproch the best, one holds up the kid the other comes from the bottom and trys to wiggle it on. It is like trying to get a tight fitting pull up on wiggley water ballon with legs that does want to cooperate.

Funny off subject story, but how I know about the swim diapars is on our last trip (Aug 2003) we somehow forgot the bag with the diapers. Well DD (age 2 1/2) really needed a new one fast. We were at Y&B club (just visiting) and was looking all over for another family with a child about her size to beg one off of. None in sight, (how often is there no 2 year olds in sight in WDW?:p ) Anyway we ducked in the gift shop. 8.50 for 14 huggies (a size too small). I wasn't about to spend 9 bucks on dipars I didn't need once we got back to the resort (had a whole jumbo package there.) We thought about getting a swim diaper but settled on 3 pull ups for 2.50. She thought they were just great. Now she wants to where them all the time, but still has no interest in useing the potty.

More advice you didn't ask for, bring enough regular diapers and wipes, the will cost you if you buy them on property.

Have a great trip. Do a search and look for some of the thread on bringing young babys to WDW, they might be helpful.

You can also use a cloth swim diaper; they are like old-fashioned rubber pants, except that they are made of a soft ripstop-like fabric; very densely woven and with tight elastic at waist and legs. These actually work best at BM containment. (For that matter, rubber pants work, too; they just are not as comfortable.)

They are disappearing from northern stores at this time of year, but Target often has them on clearance in the baby dept. pretty far into the fall. You might also check to see if you have a branch of Once Upon a Child in your area; they usually have them year-round.
