I was wondering if sweet tea is served with dinner. My sons and I love sweet tea and I know it is mostly a southern thing.

They have iced tea....I guess you could just add a bunch of sugar and make it sweeter than it is.....

I am asking if it comes already with sugar in it without adding sugar to it. You add the sugar while the tea is hot and then make it iced tea.

They have iced tea but you have to add your own sweetener. Probably the best way to satisfy all and have the least preparation to do.

Alas no. I've fallen in love with sweet tea and now know how to make it at home. On the cruise is just regular iced tea. You can add sugar but it isn't quite the same.

You can always make your own by getting the hot water from your server and dissolving the sugar in it then pouring it in the tea.

I get my sweet tea "fix" by using either spenda or equal to get the tea sweet since sugar does not dissolve in cold tea. It's not the same, but at least they have BREWED tea now.

Beware of the tea on Deck 9 at the beverage station. It is a liquid instant tea that is awful!

(hey, I didn't earn my tag by not knowing my tea :teeth: )

Sweet tea and Dr. Pepper...two things you won't find on the cruise! There is nothin' better than a big glass of ice cold sweet tea on a hot summer afternoon!

What's the difference between putting sugar in iced tea and adding sugar to hot tea and then cooling it, other than the sugar dissolving quicker?

When you put regular sugar in a glass of tea, it doesn't dissolve and adding equal, etc just doesn't taste like sweetened tea. My recipe for sweet tea: fill a pitcher about 2/3 full of cold water and add sugar to your taste (I usually put about 2/3 a cup...or more!). I then boil some water in a small saucepan (about 2 cups). When it comes to a boil, turn off the heat, add a large teabag, and let steep, but don't let it cool off too much. Remove tea bag and pour hot tea water into pitcher of water and stir. Once you've had sweet tea, you'll never go back!!

Sugar doesn't dissolve in iced tea. It just sinks to the bottom and stays gritty. If you mix your sugar into fresh brewed hot tea and then let it cool on its own or pour it over ice, it is dissolved into the whole gallon (or however much you make at a time). I just found out recently that "sweet" tea is a southern thing and that people who live up north had little or no concept of it. Gosh I'm glad I live in the "south":drinking:

I have to disagree with that. Everyone in my family drinks their iced tea unsweetened and can't stand sweet tea. :crazy2: It's a personal thing. :drinking1

I hear ya, sweet tea is the best. We live in the Midwest and it's hard to find sweet tea in a restaurant here. However, everytime we travel south you can get sweet tea in almost every restaurant. We make sweet tea at home too and for sure the only way is while it's still hot. We leave Sunday for the 4 day Wonder - can't wait!

My DH "fell in love" with sweet tea on business trip to the south. (He just ordered iced tea and ended up with sweet tea.) I however, HATE it. I do not have his sweet tooth and drink my tea unsweetened or with a tiny (1/4 packet) of equal. Since we live in the midwest, sweet tea is not available at any restaurant. If he really wants it, he orders a pot of hot tea and a glass of ice and makes his own. (At home, I always have to check the tea before I pore a glass since if he has made it, it is way too sweet!).

I will never be able to go back to sweet tea. (diabetes) I have learned to drink it plain and like it that way. What I really hate is going to a restaurant and all that is available is sweet tea and diet Coke or diet Pepsi. Then I am stuck with water. Like water but like to have a choice just like everyone else.

I always thought sweet tea was a national thing until we went out west. I ordered sweet tea in a restaurant in California and the waiter looked at me like I was crazy. He did not know what I was talking about. Silly me, I believed everyone knew what sweet tea is and everyone served it. My cousin who lives in CA (grew up in Alabama) explained to me it was a southern thing.

I have to disagree also. I used to live in the South and drink sweet tea all the time. Then I move to Colorado and stopped drinking it. I went back to Alabama once and just ordered tea (forgetting that it would come as sweet tea), I took a huge drink of it and nearly spit it all out. I always remember to ask for unsweet tea now when I go back for a visit. :)
