Need some budget ideas for dd's 16th birthday party.

We were having touble coming up with a theme but the only invitations we could find that she liked were a lollipop on a stick that says Sweet sixteen.

DD was thinking maybe a candy theme but I can see that getting expensive real quick. I also am having to provide cake and some finger food items because of the time of day we are having it so I'm trying to decide what would be good to put out candy wise for treats, party favors and of course decorations.

It will be outside but not on our property and we aren't allowed to stick anything in the ground. We will have a covered patio area and I was thinking of keeping most of the decorations in there. Maybe something simple to keep the costs down but I also don't want it to look skimpy.

If anyone has done this theme before for a 16th I would love to hear your ideas or any ideas you may have for games to fit the party theme---we may only need a few----was also wondering if I could do some sort of scavenger hunt with this theme as we will have access to alot of property.

Thanks for anyones help:)

how about just going with lollipops? Oriental Trading has them in bulk and you could put them in pots or vases for decorations and favors. If you want to put decorations in the ground, borrow some potted plants and stake yoour decorations in there.

Thanks semo233;)

Didn't think of them but not sure if I have enough time to order. I would need everything by Monday the 12th---do you know if they ship fairly fast and does anyone know if there are any savings codes for their site???

Any other ideas out there??:)

Last summer I had a Sweet Sixteen party for my daughter. Part of what I did was set up a couple long tables with pink tablecloths. I then rented a cotton candy machine for about $60. I also had a small chocolate fountain with things to dip like marshmallows, pretzels, etc. I also used my Margaritaville Mixer to make shaved ice and ordered the paper snow cones from Amazon with the syrup from Walmart. I also used my friends huge popcorn maker and had melted chocolate and caramel in mini crockpots to drizzle over the corn.

It all went great with the "sweet" part and the best thing was the kids LOVED it and just helped themselves...no work on my part during the party.

I also put out vases filled with DumDum Pops and Twizzlers along with a large tray of chocolate dipped strawberries.

You could also order a large bouquet of balloons for decoration and string some white Christmas lights.
Have a great time!

I would do and ice cream sundae bar with all the topping. You could see if there is a local cosmetology school whose student would come and give manicures to the girls at a discount.

Thanks for the ideas everyone...any others? For right now I think we are doing Marshmellow smores and oreo pops but need some ideas for cheap options for colored candies to match our them of purple, teal, fushia and lime green zebra/leopard print. Preferably something I could go out and get as it's too late to order anything online at this point.

Would anyone have any creative party favor ideas that wouldn't cost a whole lot per girl to send them home with. I'm afraid we probably wont have enough candy left to do this but I am trying to come up with something inexpensive that would be fun and not stupid at this age. Thanks all:)

I printed miniature candy bar wrappers and circle stickers for hershey kisses and put them in bags. Print different little sayings on them-

If you went with the lolipop theme you could make a lot of the decorations yourself and then just give out some candy as a favor.

You could spray paint foam balls and put them on sticks and display them in vases, flower pots, tin cans, etc. You could also easily make cardboard or card stock lolipop cut outs to hang off of tables, cover area, etc. Search "Candy Themed" party on pinterest I bet you could get some great ideas!

For party favors, get small plastic party bags at Walmart- I like the ones printed with balloons. Buy the mini nail polish brand called Bon Bon and maybe add some colorful gum drops in the bag along with the polish. Tie with colorful ribbon curls.

How about letting the girls make a candy tree? A flower pot with a styrofoam cone....various wrapped candies to fill the tree. Our kids used small straight pins. They did these almost every year at the end of the year in elementary school.

For our dd's sweet 16, I managed to buy all kinds of candy (not big big quantities) and used all kinds of glass containers, dishes, vases etc. I bought little plastic tongs at a party store so that no one touched the unwrapped candies. I put some boxes under the tablecloth so that not everything was flat on the table. I bought little plastic bags that the kids could put their candies in.

On another table close by, I had cupcakes and sweets. Instead of buying little "signs" to put on the cupcakes, I made them myself. I bought some gem stickers at the dollar store. On the computer I made a sheet of paper with oblong shapes and inside printed Happy Birthday - or - Happy Sweet 16 -. I added a gem to each little shape. Cut them up, glue two of them back to back on a toothpick. Instant decorations.

It was a great hit. The teens and the Aunts & Uncles loved it.

The most important thing is to have fun at your dd's party and take lots of pictures! It will be a day to remember!
