Sweating around the World! August w/a 1yr old w/lots of tips! PP PICs added! COMPLETE

Welcome!! I highly recommend the Photopass, especially if you join a share. They have them on TourGuideMike. Just that makes the membership cost worth it! I'm paying $20 for the CD instead of $99.

I joined TGM, but I can't seem to find the photopass available on there? Was it for a limited time only?

You need to join your month's vacation club on the message boards. There should then be a sticky thread at the top with the shares.

Day 7
We got up a bit late today. Today was our second MK day, and I figured we miss Dumbo again. Oh well.

We managed to make it to the bus stop just after 9, but we didn't make it to MK until 10:05! :headache: It only takes 10 minutes to get to MK from POR, so you can see our bus issues were continuing.

We decided to hit Pirates first. They opened it as we were walking up. Apparently they had closed it briefly? There were still people in line inside the ride, so it couldn't have been that long. A big group that had been waiting for it to reopen got in line ahead of us, but they ALL went to the left, so we went to the right (and then a big group followed us to the right, lol). I love it when both sides are open and you manage to start the trend rather than follow it.

Lily did great. She little a little noise on the drop and grabbed me, but she didn't cry at all. I think she would have loved the drop if it wasn't pitch black.

Next we went over to the Haunted Mansion. It's my favorite ride in WDW. The posted wait was 10 minutes, but we walked right into the stretching room. Lily cling to me when the lights went out, but was totally fine. She was  through the whole ride, but sat there just fine until we got to the spot where you go backwards. She didn't like the hill very much, but she still didn't cry...but of course the ride stopped for a minute while we were hanging there backwards.

Next we hiked through a busy Fantasyland to Toontown so that I could prove to DH that the line for the Fairies would be ridicuously long. Lily's room is done in the Disney Fairies. DH painted her a mural.

It looks way better in person, but you get the idea.

We got there and the line was 75 minutes. I would be willing to bet that this was the longest standby line in the park (probably all day). I don't know what those fairies do in there, but gee whiz!

The line for the Princesses was only 15 minutes and like true Disney wait times, it was more like 10. DH noticed that the actual line for the fairies was only slightly longer than the princesses. I told him to remember the family at the back of the line.

We had some great moments with the Princesses. We had Cinderella, Aurora and my favorite Belle!! Mommy was SOOO excited that her princess was going to see Belle in her yellow dress no less! I had only ever seen her at France in the blue dress. :cloud9: Got some awesome Photopass pictures.

They were all really great interations, I can't even pick a favorite.

On the way out I pointed out the family that had been at the end of the line when we got in line. They may have moved up about 2 steps and now there were more people behind them. Yikes!

When we left it was HOT, so we decided to go to the Starlight cafe for lunch and leave. Lunch there was good as always.

We got back to the room and mousekeeping was in the room next door. So we quickly changed into our swimming gear and waited...and waited...and waited. We didn't hear any movement next door, so we finally realized, she was at lunch! lol So we swam and of course about 3 minutes after we got back in the room, she was knocking on the door. Thankfully, we had our clothes back on. We told her DD needed a nap, but the room needed cleaned and she said she would be back at 5, which was perfect, since our dinner reservation at Ohana was at 5.

We always seem to get on the wrong schedule with Mousekeeping.

We played a little and then napped. I talked DH into driving to the Poly. He was worried that they wouldn't let us park there, but I told him we just had to say we were eating there. We only took one wrong turn! I am SO glad we drove. It was so much easier than catching a bus to MK and then the monorail. We were super happy when we got to the resort. It was about 4:45 and there was a big line at the check in desk at Ohana, so i got in line while DH strolled around with Lily.

We always eat at the Poly. It's our favorite. DD loved it too!

The singer came out and at the very end I took Lily up to dance with her and we came back with these:

See her shirt? It has wings on the back. I'd picked out for her to see the fairies, but that didn't happen. It's big on her, so hopefully it'll fit in December.

We had a great time and the food was great. Especially the dessert that I dream about! MMMMMmmmmm:lovestruc

We drove home, nice and full and super happy to not be riding a bus!

Next: Two Red parks in one day?! What are we thinking?

Day 7

Your little girl is SOOOO cute! Love the pics!

DH finally got 3 whole videos uploaded to the FlipShare thingy, so I'm trying to figure out how to post them.

One is of the beginning of Playhouse Disney Live, it's cute. One is the 7 second foggy video of her first character greeting that I won't post, because it's too hard to see. and the last one is of her playing with the air conditioner, so not super exciting, but it's cute! I think the PDL is the only one worth uploading...

Day 8, Part 1
Last park day!
The day in which we brave 2 red parks in one day.

Some of you are wondering what a "red" park is. It's the park TGM has deemed the absolute worst one to go to. Up until this point, we had only visited green parks.

I was VERY anxious about this day. I orginally had planned to be a good TGMer and go to the green park-Animal Kingdom. But as you remember, DH and I decided to save AK for december when we won't melt upon getting off the bus in the morning. We hate AK in August when it's just DH and I, but we couldn't subject Lily to it. Plus, we felt there just isn't enough to do to justify dealing with the heat. In December there is a TON to do. We'll walk all the paths and see the shows, but in August the treks are like a death march.

Plus we still hadn't set foot in Tomorrowland at MK.

So I was hoping Lily would get up early today. It was an early entry day at MK. At this point letting Lily wake up on her own was working for us, so we didn't want to jinx it. I'm not sure how that will work in December. We'll need to be out early to avoid the worst of the crowds.

We made it to MK by 8:45, so not terrible, but they were just letting in the regular crowds. We actually walked in with the first giant crowd from the Transportation and Ticket Center. The monorail arrived at the same time at the boat. it was quite a sight. If I wasn't busy trying to power walk to get ahead of them, I might have stopped for a picture. It was like a swarm of ants after a picnic.

We headed to Tomorrowland. We rode Buzz. It had a 5 minute wait. Lily was very  for this one. Not scared, just looking around with wide eyes the whole time. Somehow I managed to hold Lily and still beat DH's score!

Next we rode the TTA. We almost rode it twice. It was so relaxing! This phot really shows how much weight I've lost. Compare my face to the first picture I posted at the beginning of the TR. I'm down at least 20 pounds since then, probably closer to 25.

You can also sorta see the Perry the Platypus shirt DH drew for Lily.
46018_10150257442610384_612785383_14416065_3573275_n.jpg

I think Lily really liked this ride. :thumbsup2
45729_10150257442635384_612785383_14416067_2200325_n.jpg

BTW, I had heard that with the new voice track to TTA, they no longer paged Dr. Tom Morrow, but it's still there. I actually liked the new recording. It's probably great for newbies, which are probably the most likely to ride TTA. ;)

After this we decided to skip Carrousel of Progress even though, it's honestly my favorite ride in Tomorrowland. What can I say? I love Puppies of Progress, but we were afraid there wasn't enough to keep Lily interested.

So we headed to Toon Town to wait for rope drop, but we decided to ride the teacups. DH hates the teacups, even if I don't spin it. Wuss. So I took Lily and he videoed. He also managed a couple of photos.
This is my, "are you going to take a picture or what?" face.

44644_10150257442665384_612785383_14416069_6527120_n.jpg

That picture pretty much sums up how Lily handled it. I think she was enjoying the hot breeze on her face. :lmao: She did play with the spinner a lot.
We got off just at Toontown was opening and I told DH we'd be too late for the fairies. I told him we'd have to be at the front of the pack with Lily out of her stroller already. He didn't believe me.

We were just behind the rope drop crowd. I walked in to check the wait and it was 25 minutes already. We skipped it. I sort of wish we had stayed, because I doubt we'll get to it in December since the crowds would be so much worse. But she has plenty of time to meet the fairies.

Speaking of crowds, there really wasn't much of anything to speak of at this point. Actually the whole time we were there it was very nice. I was expecting to pretty much ride nothing and wade throuhgh crowds, but it was probably a little less busy than it was the morning we had been here eariler in the week. I chalk that up to all the kids going back to school. Around here everyone was going back sometime in the next week, so most families would have gone the week before.

So we took Lily through Minnie and Mickey's houses. I never realized how interactive Minnie's house is, we always just walked straight through.

44690_10150257442970384_612785383_14416086_6359271_n.jpg

As you can see, Lily loved it.

We walked over and road Haunted Mansion (Fantasyland was too busy for my tastes, I think everything was around a 20 minute wait).
Afterwards we decided to check and see if Columbia Harbor House was open. It was only 10:30, but they were open! Nothing like fried fish and chicken nuggets at 10:30am!

Next we headed to Country Bear Jamboree, which is on my top 10 list of WDW favorites. I have unusual taste, I guess. As much as I love the mountains, I grew up with "real" rollercoasters at Cedar Point, so they aren't that big of a deal. Though, I LOVE Splash Mountain for the theming.

Anyway, Lily LOVED CBJ. She really liked the animals on the wall though. She kept pointing to them and whining, because she wanted them to talk and not the stupid bears. :lmao: It was a great crowd. A bunch of people who had never been that had the right sense of humor and a couple of super fans like me that clapped though each song like I always try to do. I've been in there with boring, humorless people before and it's a very different show. But this crowd laughed appropriately and it was fun.

Lily was pretty much done at this point, but we decided to try the Tiki room anyway. We ended up leaving, because she wasn't into it and was ready to leave.

I decided to stop at the Baby Care Center and see if she would nurse. To my complete shock, she actually did! I think it was peer pressure. :lmao: This was the only time we visited that there was anyone in there nursing.

I'm going to take a second and talk about the MK BCC in more detail. It is next to the Crystal Palace. There is a seperate room for nursing mothers. It has 4 rocking chairs. There are a few other rooms; a bathroom, a little kitchen/store, a changing room, and a TV room with highchairs, tables and books. The chairs in the TV room are extremely uncomfortable, but otherwise I love this little area. We didn't really look in the store/kitchen, but I know they had a little water cooler with free water.

I would highly recommend it to anyone who has a child that needs a break. It's nice and quiet. Also come here if you have to change the baby. The tables are full size and they provide paper sheets to put under the child. it's much closer to our set up at home.

I can't believe it was the only one we visited, but Epcot's was too far away and we didn't go to AK. We were only at DHS the first day and unfortunatly I didn't think of it.

I know the other ones have different set ups. DHS and AK I think have private nursing rooms and I think Epcot's is the biggest. Someone gave a GREAT review of all of them, so I'll see if I can find it.

After our stop here, we headed back to the room after I said goodbye to the castle :sad1:.

Up next, we hit the other red park, Epcot!

First post on the DIS!!
Long time lurker, but your TR brought me out.
Taking my 13 month old for her first trip in 2 weeks. I've done a lot of research, but your tips are great.
The finger puppet tip is invaluable!! I've been wondering what to take to use for entertainment in line and that's perfect. They fit in a pocket. Thanks!

Looking forward to seeing them! We got the cutest clip of video in 2007 of Levi dancing, clapping, and yelling b/c he was so excited at PHDL! It is short, I really wish t were longer!

Did you find the BCC review thread? I'd love to check it out! That Perry shirt looks like something you would get at the Disney store. He should draw up a couple to sell on ETSY!!!! And I really like his mural!

LOVE me some Epcot!!!! Can't wait!

Another great udpate! LOVE the pics, especially the ones where Lily is enjoying playing with the water! What a happy pic!:lovestruc I also agree with the PP who suggested that your DH sell some items with his artwork on them. He's really talented!

Joining in! We take DS 10 months (well almost 11 mo by then) in two weeks! You have some GREAT tips, and an adorable daughter! Thanks so much for sharing!

Thanks!

I'm so glad I could be helpful! Along the same lines as the finger puppets are pipe cleaners. You can shape them pretty easily or just let the kiddo bend them together. Lily really likes to play with them.

First, Lily looks SO STINKIN CUTE with that lei on her head!!! That fairies shirt sounds adorable! Belle is my fav, too! Can't wait to see your Photopass pics!

Looking forward to seeing them! We got the cutest clip of video in 2007 of Levi dancing, clapping, and yelling b/c he was so excited at PHDL! It is short, I really wish t were longer!

Here you go!
Candleonthewater's BCC review

Thank You! I told him that too, but with Disney's copyright, he's really not allowed to use their characters in his work and then sell it.

You should see some of his real work. The shirts were just for fun! :thumbsup2

Day 8, Part 2

Tonight I had managed to get a much coveted ADR for Le Cellier. I was a little anxious about how Lily would behave.

We had our afternoon ritual of swim and sleep and then we managed to somehow get to Le Cellier almost exactly on time. We usually are at least 10-15 minutes early, but we just made it.

And then we waited for what felt like forever. We had to check in at a little desk before you walk down to the restuarant and then check in again once we got down there.

I had a nice time watching a woman try to get in without an ADR. She was borderline rude the whole time, basically saying that it was ridiculous that it was so hard to get into(she had tried several times to get a reservation) and that she deserved to get a table, because she had tried to get in. People around us were talking about how rude she was. She didn't get in.

We probably waited at least 15 minutes. Which isn't much, but when you are stuck standing around with a 1 yo, it feels like forever. I chatted with a nice family who was there for the first time about it changing to 2 credits next year. No more Le Cellier for us. :sad2: We're too cheap for that. :thumbsup2

We were finally seated and Lily started flirting with everyone in sight. They put us right next to the bathroom, which was a great thing, because she always had someone new to smile and wave at. :goodvibes

The meal was by far the best food of the trip. We both got the Mushroom Filet and it was soooo good. I got the chocolate mousse for dessert. We've all seen the pictures. I usually get the creme brulee, but I wanted to try it and the waitress said it was her favorite. I loved it! It's definitely not just a kids dessert. It was very, very good.

We also ended up getting extra pretzel breadsticks. I'm not sure I had ever seen Lily eat so much. She LOVES steak and ate a ton of that, but she really, really enjoyed the bread...my little carboholic

I think that last picture might be the best one I took.

After our meal, we ended up riding Figment and Nemo again. Figment actually had about a 15 minute wait. Lily and I had fun waiting for Figment to appear on the little screens and the family behind us entertained her a bit too. Nemo was a walk on and the Seas were pretty quiet.

All the big rides had really long waits with no fast passes, so even though we didn't feel the crowds walking around, this was indeed a pretty red park. Anytime Figment actually has a line, it has to be busy.

We headed out and said goodbye to the ball. :sad2:

Next up: heading home and wrap up!

The mural your DH painted is beautiful!!!! And the shirts are fabulous!!! I have zero creativity, I envy people like your DH.

My DH has decided that he doesn't want to wait till NEXT Dec to do back to WDW so we might be going in March with a 3 YO and a 3 month old!!! Yikes! I am not very comfy with NIP so I am looking forward to getting some use out of the baby care centers. Thanks for the nice review!!

I am so glad things turned around and Lily adjusted to everything so well. I think kids just need a day or 2 to get used to new surroundings and while that makes vacations hard at first, it is so well worth it!!

Oh and by the way, I looked at you pics again. On my gosh, you can absolutely tell how much you have lost!! Congrats! Losing weight with a little one to worry about is really difficult so kudos to you!!

Thanks! I'm not very artsy myself! 3 months isn't a bad time. By then any nursing issues should be figured out and I know for me, things got a lot easier around that time!

She needed time to adjust and so did we. I was just happy that it only took us 2 days!

Thank you! It's been all about breast feeding for me. I'm doing Weight Watchers, but once I figured out about where I needed to be, the weight has just melted off. BFing is the best diet around! :goodvibes

So I guess the only way to post video around here is if I put it up on YouTube. DH doesn't want me to, so if you want to see the video you'll have to friend me on Facebook.

:-(
I'm Sarah Posey Vargo

I only have the Playhouse Disney video loaded, but I should have most, if not all up there by the end of the week.

This made me laugh because this is the stage my near one year old just entered. Flirting with everyone that will look at her, and she just assumes everyone WILL look at her.... which they should .... cuz shes adorable..... just joking ;) Yeah, she's cute to us :goodvibes

Glad your meal went well. Never did LeCelier. Is it fancy fancy or do the kids fit in well? I had a big group in July, and I was afraid to brave it. We had 7 kids in our group from 20 years down to 9 months

It's fancy, but totally baby and family friendly. It is Canada after all. It's down-to-earth fancy. It's hard to articulate. The atmosphere and food are fancy, but the guests are not (or at least aren't expected to be). That will probably change when it goes up to 2 credits next year though. I'd be willing to bet that the guests will be a little fancier, something you would expect at the 2 credit places. But that doesn't mean much either. We ate at the 2 credit place at the Contemporary...I can't think of the name...and there were plenty of shorts and t-shirts and kids. There were also people definitely dressed up.

Ok... FINALLY caught up! It looks like a very good week. You guys did a great job of paying attention to Lilly's cues, yet maximizing your tour plans. It's so hard to achieve both, but I think you excelled. Other than, WP it sounds like they were great choices in ADRs for little people. My kids went nuts for the food at LC too. they love steak as well. Thanks for the link on the other BCC, I had only been in the one at MK.

What a great list of kid distractions! I am going to start keeping a list. while we aren't driving to Disney, we do have a trip to MI at least once a month. I am very impressed with the photo from WP where Lilly is holding the crayon. Aileen still puts them all in her mouth.

And I almost orgot... EWWW on the dead lizard!!! eww eww eww
