Swapping in Resale Borrowed Points

So, here’s my question that I’ve already confused myself with:

I currently have a reservation 9/5-9/8 at BRV, booked with 2022 points (Feb UY). I am waiting for a resale contract to show up on my membership that has a number of points that were borrowed from 2023 (also Feb UY) by the previous owner. I know those points are use or lose at this point, but once the points are loaded into my membership, can I swap those points into that 9/5 ressie, freeing up some of the 2022 points that were used initially to book it? Could those 2022 points then be banked into 2023? Banking deadline isn’t until the end of September.

I’m just brainstorming ideas to get some use out of those borrowed points (which I am also not going to be heartbroken if I lose). I knew they were borrowed, but the contract size, price, and UY were worth it.

Thanks.

There are some assumptions that must hold true, but if they do, then yes. :)

Yes, assuming the resale points will be added to the same membership used to book the September reservation.. And If the reservation was booked during the home resort period, the resale points must also be BRV points, unless there is still availability for the booked nights.

Just do the "modify" thing once the points are loaded. System will use the borrowed points and return current use year points. Those can be banked if your banking deadline hasn't passed, and you complete the modification at least 31 days prior to arrival. Holding points cannot be banked.

Not much time left to get those points into your account. Good luck!

Since it's within 60 30 days, does it put his original points into holding status? I've noticed when I did the modify to add a name (because the modify feature for just the names gives the 7 dwarfs, of course ), it refunds the points as holding points and immediately redeems them back. Not an issue in my case but does it do that for a contract swap?

EDIT: First sentence should say 30 days, sorry.

Within 30 days, yes. My points went into holding for a contract swap.

To summarize:

1. Since arrival date is 9/5/22, you have only until 8/5/22 (31 days before arrival) to replace current use year points with those borrowed points in the reservation (and points taken out of the reservation could then be banked by Sep 30) because any such attempted change made after 8/5 will result in points taken out of the current reservation going into holding and cannot be banked.

2. If you made the reservation during the 11-month window using BRV points and your new contract is for BRV points, then you should be able to modify the reservation online (unless, as is far too common, the reservation system has a glitch, in which case you will need to call MS) to take out current use year BRV points and replace them with the borrowed points. If the new contract is not for BRV points, that change can be made only if the reservation you currently have is actually separately available at the time you attempt the change (which is unlikely), and that kind of change may require calling MS even if it can be done.

3. If you made the reservation during the 7-month window, you can do the online modification (assuming no glitches prevent it) to switch points even if the new contract is not for BRV points.

Sorry, should have mentioned that yes, they are also BRV points and will be added to the same membership.

I know I’m getting close to the 30-day window on 8/5, so that’s what got me thinking I could possibly swap those “new” BRV points in, and get my original points (that I can still bank before 9/30) freed up to bank into 2023.

Just to add, you have to modify 31 days in advance, not 30 to avoid the holding status.

August has 31 days, so 8/5 would be the last day to cancel a 9/5 reservation to avoid holding.

Within 30 days, yes. My points went into holding for a contract swap.

Thanks, I was thinking about the fact that they had to be used within 60 days of arrival and got mixed up.

I'd STILL do it if the expiring points are going to expire very soon and the holding points have more months to be used, but each situation is different.

If the resale contract shows up but the points do not show call member service. They might can get the points loaded for you. I did this when our boardwalk resale showed up on our account but the points were not loaded yet. The first day member service said the points were not showing up in the “background” yet to call back in a day or two. I called next day and they were there and got loaded allowing us to book a boardwalk room 2 days before the 7 month window opened up. We got lucky maybe you will too.

Update:

Contract appeared on my dashboard this morning (literally hours after an email from MA saying they had no update and giving me the four to six week spiel). 30 minutes on chat, and the points were loaded, the 2023 points borrowed by the previous owner were swapped into my 9/5 reservation, and my 2022 points I used to make the reservation originally are now sitting in my account with plenty of time to decide what to do before the banking deadline of 9/30 (Feb UY).

Woo hoo!

Yes, I did this with

Yes, I did this exact same thing on 2 ressies utilizing 160 points. I did it using the chat feature, took an hour. But I was able to back 160 points into 2023 uy.
