Swapoholics Anonymous meeting - room 101

Hello Ladies,

My name is Ryan Ann and I am a swapaholic. I joined the DIS in the spring of '05 to plan my first trip to the World.

I believe I had participated in my first swap by the end of that year. My 2005 Disneyworld book has yet to be completed but I have completed many swaps since then, always vowing to finish that book before I did anything else. I now also have a half finished Colorado/Engagement book, an every day book that is very far behind, and a half way done book for my bestfriend from her trip to Boston in the Summer of '05 (it was supposed to be a christmas present, then turned into a birthday present ... and now???).

Now, instead of getting the last of my wedding thank yous out the door, I completed two swaps.

I promised my new DH that I will not sign up for anymore swaps this year!

Disclaimer/Fine Print: This in no way makes fun of or belittles those with real addictions. Just wanted to be clear. :thumbsup2

Welcome Ryan Ann. I too am trying to finish my 2004 trip and still haven't printed the pics from 4 trips in 2005. Nor have I touched my kids albums, their school albums, or my heritage album this year.

OT but your picture is beautiful!!!!

I joined 12 swaps on this board this year, 3 on another, 2 circle journals and 2 secret sister swaps. I need an intervention!!!

Uh oh, now I have to go to SA and Prima/Basic Grey Anon meetings! :teeth:

Hello, my name is Candy and I'm a swapaholic! It has been 2 days since I last worked on my swaps. And it's turning out so great (oh wait um, yeah)

Anyway, I first knew that I had a problem when I completely forgot a swap I had joined b/c I had joined so many. Then as soon as that one was completed and sent out (a few days late  ) I signed up for another swap. And not only another swap 3 whole groups in that swap. I am powerless against my addiction.

Hi everybody,
I am Sharon and have gone cold-turkey on joining any more swaps! :thumbsup2 t has been 4 months since I SIGNED UP for any swaps. I had signed up for sooooooooooooo many swaps it became overwhelming so I am forbidding myself from joining any more until the last 4 I have to do are complete, my scrap room is spotlessly clean, AND I actually use the items I have received from the swaps I have completed.
I got swept up in swapping when I was going on a DCL cruise last year and must have done about 100 swaps this year. Yikes!!! :confused3

Wow, I think the next time my scraproom will be spotless is when we are moving out...cause the last time it was spotless was when we moved in! :lmao:

As part of my intervention, I have bought an audio tape on organizing...see I was swapping too much to actually READ a book, so I LISTEN to the books in the car now (when it is impossible to work on my swaps). I got a great audio book, and will be working on this room of mine.

Which room is Clutterers Anon?

I just get this feeling in me of utter excitement and I can't control myself! Its all about the purchase the process of creating and then giving it to someone who will love it! I can't STAND IT!!!!! Someone please HELP ME!!!!!! :rotfl: :rotfl:

I have actually overspent on STUFF cause I couldn't resist buying it!!! Then my bills come in and I am like :teeth: oh yeah!!!! Gotta pay for it!!! :guilty:

I need serious help!!! Wow, I can't believe I actually admitted that! Whew! That felt GOOD!!! OK that is the first step! Not that it will stop me! But at least it is out in the open! :rotfl:

Ditto on the disclamer!

Maria

So far we have come up with:

Step 1 - Admitting that you have a problem (Several of you can use this step in your other programs)

Step 2 - admitting that you have neglected "Things" i.e. children, spouses, significant others, chores, and *ahem* duties
(notice I did not say apologizing, just admitting.)

Baby steps.....

I admit to all of the above!!! See my post in the thread you started for me.. I'll PM you later.... OH, I do laundry while I'm working on swaps because my swap room is in my laundry room!!!

So I have a problem for the group.

Normally, with the topic of swaps, my DH rolls his eyes as he counts the postage and materials costs in his head.

But last night, while I was working on swaps, he said, "It's nice when you are working on that stuff because you are close to me."

My scrap table (which I previously admitted to being his hobby table), is next to the computer, so he will play games while I work, otherwise I'd be in the living room watching tv.

So what, is that permission?

RUN!!!!! He is secretly counting the pennies you have spent! If he sees it then he can get an idea of how much you have spent.

How close? Is he lookin' for some wifely attention to distract you from your scrapping duties?

My DH is an enabler too. He says that he likes that I am spending money as he doesn't feel bad that he spends money on his hobbies. He also likes that it fills in some of my empty time when I am not teaching or working on things for the church. He has been insturmental in getting me toys for swaps and scrapping.

OK ok so they get what they want and we get what we want. But still it takes away from valuable scrap time!

I have however used the spending ploy before. DH needed new tires for the Mini I needed new disney embellishments. It worked... :rolleyes1

See my ace is DH loves to take pictures. I let him buy a new D70s well I needed better tools and paper to make his pictures look even better. We feed each others addictions. So I guess he is my enabler in some ways. :rotfl2:

My DH is supportive, but not quite so much. I think his exact comment was, "Well, you could have worse hobbies". Not exactly a ringing endorsement.

But he has admitted to enjoying the albums I do with my wonderful swap stuff. And he does do laundry when I am swapping....maybe he is a secret enabler!

My name is Cherie and my husband is abetting my addictions.... :rotfl2:
