Swap Questions (not specific to any one swap)

I know a lot of people have questions regarding the swaps, especially if it is their first. I thought it might be handy to be able to ask our questions in one place.

Here is my question:
If you are making two journal boxes are they supposed to be the same or two different styles?

They are preferred to be similar but preferred to not be exactly the same for example...

Those were some boxes from the 1st or 2nd swap we did last year-

There are plenty of good examples if you breeze through the different posted swaps (I think DAK, Magic, Epcot are all posted and the latest Everything else will be posted hopefully tomorrow..)

OMG, you all do just great work! I'm not sure my scrapping can even come close!

Thanks for posting the pics. It is good to see what has been done previously.

Awww, man! I missed out on that one! That stuff is just toooo cute! I can't wait to see all the character swap stuff! Awesome work!

I just wanted to post about the black and red embellished squares, I saw a lady at my LSS use something along those lines for tiny bits of journaling. It looked really cute.

Bump

Someone mentioned they had some questions about swaps & I thought this thread might help.

I was in charge of borders for the Girl Scout swap and after I completed them it hit me that I wasn't sure exactly what I was suppose to do - were all 20 suppose to be the same (we did 2 for 10 people) or were the two suppose to be the same but I could do 10 different kinds. So I PM'd and asked and she what I did was fine but it's best to have 2 of the same that will go to one person.

So this isn't really a question but it's good for someone who has never done borders to know.

When she posted yesterday that they were cute, I felt so much better - I get very uptight about this stuff for some stupid reason - I just worry because some of you are soooooooooo very talented!!!!

I know what you mean! I was so confused when I did borders for the Everything Else swap. I ended up looking at the 3 park swaps posted at the time to get an idea. I ended up doing 2 different, but coordinating princess borders. I've noticed that many of the posted 2 page LOs at 2Peas do not have matching borders, so I just hoped it was okay.

And I'm not a big border person so I thought doing that one would help me get into doing them because they can really make a page.

Another question that has been raised in the past was embellished squares and what constituted them as embellished. Generally you double mat the squares and embellishments can be anything from a small little sticker to eyelet(s) to stamps to anything that "spruces it up a bit". If you've looked at any of the links that Disneyland_emily has graciously put up for us to look at you can see that some of the squares were as simple as having a little punch out piece on it.

I did squares for the GS swap also and those were soooooo easy (and I do have to say they were cute too).

I chose to do borders & squares for my first swap too! :) After looking at them for past swaps (and yes, I'm so thankful Em did that for us!) I figured those 2 elements wouldn't be too hard. :rotfl: For all the time I spent agonizing over them DH wouldn't have agreed that they weren't too hard! ;)

I was confused about the squares & their size. Was the inner square 1" (if you used clipart) or the outer mat?? In the end, I split the difference & used 3/4" for the embossed images and 1" & 1.25" for the mats. Much later I realized that if I'd turned the mats to 90 degrees I could have used all 1" squares. Someone did that for the AK swap & they looked really nice!

Piratesmate, you need to break down and buy a square punch. It makes the job sooo much easier. And the one sold by cm has the two different sizes. No cutting, just punch and tape!

I know! I know!! Silly me - I looked at the square punch & thought "Why spend the money on that?? I can just use my 12" Fiskars Rotary Cutter." :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: And I would have told you that my mother didn't raise any fools! I wish you could have seen me cutting those 3/4" & 1.25" squares with only half inch guidelines. :sad2:

And I must be a total moron! I just took advantage of the "buy a large hsape cutter & get the mini circle cutter free" deal, but bought the large stars! What was I thinking?!?!? :earseek: (That I could use my personal trimmer from the last CM party to cut those silly squares.)

<- also did the first batch of squares without a punch-

I wised up for the Cruise Swap! (okay I borrowed one...) but WOW- I got all those suckers punched in one episode of I love Lucy... AND they were all the same size :)

Now Ive got squares for my other boards 1st Swap and I guarentee I'll be usin that punch again... :)
