Swap Entre for appetizer

Hi,

One of my kids (17 yo) is quite a picky eater. In the past, he would get a ceaser salad if he didn't see anything he liked.

Now with no appetizers, would they allow us to swap at the restraunts on the DDP?

I don't have personal experience with it, but I've seen mixed reports on this board. Common sense would suggest it should be allowed... a $8 salad instead of a $25 entree. But I've seen mixed reports on the board of restaurants not allowing it. (Probably because the computer system is strict on dining plan alotments)

Though I would suggest --- If you're not on free dining, and you expect this to happen regularly, it would be far cheaper to simply skip the meal plan.
Or, if you still want the DDP, or if it is free -- You can pay out of pocket for the salad, and save the credits to use for other meals.

If you do use a dining credit for "just a salad" -- then you are basically paying $20+ for that salad.

Maybe. It's possibly less likely at restaurants that are not operated by Disney itself - they tend to be less flexible.

Another thing is you can keep the dining plan, pay OOP for all his "salads" at meal time and save/use his credits.

Those credits can be used by you, spouse or the other adult child in the party. So depending on how many he doesn't use maybe you could go to a 2 TS signature place and use the extra credits.

At a number of restaurants there are large salads that are considered entree size. I remember a Caesar Salad and a Steak Salad at Le Cellier that were listed among the entrees.

You'll probably have better luck getting an appetizer as an entree at the Disney owned restaurants. The third party venues are more likely to adhere to the rules of the dining plan.

If a restaurant won't let you use a credit for the appetizer/salad I agree with the PPs to just pay OOP and save his credits for dinner shows or signature dining.

We tried a few times with a dieting step mom and the answer was always no. At lunch entree salads are ok but you couldn't get the cheaper side salads. At dinner there usually were not salad options. It seemed crazy because the salads she wanted were usually like $7 and she'd end up with a seafood dish instead that was like $25. That's just the way the system is. They are willing to leave sauces off and otherwise modify entrees though if he'll eat something like a steak.

We were not allowed to at Chef's de France. I was on the DxDDP and wanted two appetizers instead of an appetizer and an entree. The waiter wasn't sure, so checked with the manager and was told no. I had to order exactly as the plan stated (one appetizer, one entree, one dessert, and one beverage).

We ate lunch at Liberty Tree Tavern this summer and they let my DD (20) order the fried cheese app. for her entree. It was not a problem. Not the best use of a table service meal, but that's all she wanted.
