Swan going smoke free Jan 2006

That's awesome news. I can't count the number of times I've asked for and been told I had a non-smoking room that clearly smelled of smoke. Luckily I don't have asthma or allergies but when I was pregnant it really made me nausious. I've also been put in "non-smoking rooms" that were right next to smoking rooms. Yuck.

From the article:
"Eight Westin hotels were already smoke-free, and at least 5 percent of the rooms at the others had been set aside for nonsmokers, Brush said. But market research found that 92 percent of Westin's guests were requesting nonsmoking rooms, and some of those who couldn't get them were "quite upset," she said."

It doesn't make any sense to only set aside 5% of rooms for nonsmokers. Even if you are not going to ban smoking, clearly more than 5% of your costumers or nonsmokers.

That's what they said on the local news here in Las Vegas as well... the casino is the only place they will be allowed to smoke and I didn't know they had on.

I fear that this is just going to result in more people smoking in non-smoking rooms, especially in those rooms that don't have a balcony.

There's supposedly a $200 cleaning fee to have the room deep cleaned if smoke is smelled in them. Whether or not they'd really inforce this I don't know but that's a hefty price for breaking the rules.

I think that's a certainty, especially people that are forced to use the hotel because of a conference etc. Since they have no choice they won't care

The Swan is a westin, the Dolphin is a Sheraton

Unless something has changed since the summer, they're both owned by Starwood Resorts. :)

I think it would be nice if the Disney resorts went to this as well. It is much easier to enforce a blanket policy than it is to try and figure out what is and isn't allowed everywhere.

I doubt this will happen soon but it would be nice.

Starwoods now owns both brands, but your point is well-taken. AFAIK, the two resorts are operated now as one, and I don't remember seeing either branding associated with the resorts since the consolidation. They both appear in the lists of resorts on both brand's web sites, and are more than anything else branded as the "Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin" to the exclusion of all other branding.

That may be how they are looking at it. I noticed if you go to the starwood site you can book a smoking room for February so this may not be happening for either the swan or dolphin

The Swan and Dolphin are both owned by Starwood. The Swan is branded as a Westin, the Dolphin as a Sheraton.
It's clear on the Starwood website as to the branding of each, as well as on the Swan\Dolphin website.
Only the Westin brand is going smoke free at this point. None of the other Starwood brands are included at this time.

The GC at disneyland has a policy like this, and a fine results if you smoke, even on the balcony in a non-smoking room.

I think it's great. On our recent trip to vegas, we were upgraded to a larger room in the new tower at the venetian because the gave away all the non smoking rooms in the old section before our plane arrived.

Uh, I definitely went and checked the website yesterday and saw no such evidence. I just checked again, and saw no evidence on http://www.swandolphin.com of any Westin or Sheraton branding on the half dozen pages I visited on the site. What page are you looking at?

You are correct about the Starwoods website.

If you click on Reservations on the Swan-Dolphin site, then on Room Reservations, you will get another window that gives you the choice of the Swan or the Dolphin.
Clicking on the Dolphin will get you:

The Swan: http://www.starwoodhotels.com/westi...rtyID=1018&ES=TMH_WI_WaltDisneyWorldSwan_1018
Each clearly shows the branding.
