After months of anticipation, we headed to Disney's Swan Hotel on Friday. We live only 45 minutes away but wanted to stay on property for our last weekend using our annual passes. I am a substitute teacher so I got it at the discounted rate.

We check in and are told there is a room ready for us on the 9th floor. This was great news to me because we got there a little early (around 2:00) and wasn't sure we could check in.

We get to room 901 West and walk in. At first I thought "gosh, they left bath robes for us, now nice" then my DH sayd "uhhh, there's luggage in here!" and I looked and sure enough, OTHER PEOPLES belongings are in the room. They gave us an OCCUPIED room! I go down to the service desk and let them know and got a sincere apology. We got an upgrade to the 10th floor ("preferred floor")and got a room with a mini bar. We were shocked at the computer glitch. I wanted to leave a note for the occupants of the room and say "someone was here!"

Other than that, we had a wonderful weekend. The Swan Hotel was just beautiful and we were happy with our trip. Le Cellier was delicious and well worth the $$.

When i first read the title i was like :lmao: :rotfl2: , but then i was like :scared1: . What if it would have been someone else not honest?! Makes me feel good that i lock my suitcase even when we're not there.

It certainly could have been a lot more embarrasing if the occupants were in the room if you know what I mean. ;) :scared1:

This happened to us at the Contemporary. It was our first time there and I was trying to soak in the ambiance of the room, etc. but it wasn't clicking that the room was occupied. AND there were people in the bed. THANK GOODNESS they were only napping. I almost screamed but we left and literally ran down to the front desk. I'm not sure if we woke them up but I told the manager HE could call them about their mistake.

omg...that's so funny! Goos thing you didn't walk in on something embarrassing!

I checked into a hotel with outside enterances once while traveling for business. I got all my luggage out of the trunk and headed to the door. I put my key in and opened the door without really looking inside. I dragged all my stuff into the room and shut the door. I immediately noticed that the room was occupied. There was stuff everywhere. This man had obviously been in that room for awhile (or at least it appeared that way). I was standing in shock when I realized the shower was running. I hightailed it out of their so fast. I was so embarassed. I mean, what if he'd come out of the bathroom when I was there? I called the front desk from my cell phone. They only gave a half-hearted appoligy and said to come back to the main building for new keys. I was upgraded to a special water view.

I guess it just happens sometimes. I've stayed at that hotel again many times (lots of conferences are held there) and have never had any problems. It did teach me to make sure I double lock the door when I enter the room

Unfortunately this happens more than you'd think, I believe. I used to travel a great deal for business and I have had it happen both ways - i've walked into an occupied room. AND I have had someone come into my room just as I was getting settled in on 2 different occasions. You'd think with all the automation that this would NEVER happen but I'd say I had this happen a total of 4 or 5 times over a 3-4 year period.

The same thing happened to me at one of the upscale Las Vegas resorts! :lmao:

Precisely why I use the security lock and latch when I'm in the room! :thumbsup2

Oh man, I got walked in on once! AND I WAS CHANGING!

We had a similar experience a few years ago at Port Orleans French Quarter. Dh and I were asleep in bed one evening (it was very late) and we woke up to the sound of a key in the slot & our room door opening. Standing in the doorway was a very shocked and tired family of 5, suitcases, small children and all! Obviously, there was a mix-up at the front desk upon their check-in. They were SO embarrassed that happended and they walked away. Dh and I just laughed about it (we still do!). :rotfl:

Ooooops. That's a pretty big mistake. When we are in the room we always use the security chain so we'd know if someone tries to get in.

But when we are out of the room my DH always leave stuff out - like his unlocked laptop - despite my constant nagging to put it away. Things could easily be stolen and blamed on mousekeeping if someone wasn't honest.

I think I'll use this as an example to get him to lock up the laptop and put all valuables in the safe. Bet he'll listen next time. :)

Now, we always use the extra security lock on the door whenever we are in the room and never, ever, ever leave anything valuable out in plain sight. We learned our lesson. You never know who will walk in on 'ya!

This has happened to us twice. Both upscale resorts in Calif. & Nevada.

The first time I walked directly to the window to see our view, not noticing the occupants personal belongings strewn about. When I turned around, the bellman said oh no, this room is occupied, I'll take care of this. We went to the courtesy phone in the hall and he told the front desk "This is unacceptable, MY guests have been inconvenienced and I want them taken care of". We then proceeded to the concierge floor to meet someone bringing our new key cards. Stayed 5 nights concierge for the price of my already deeply discounted standard rate.

Second time, it was a suite. Again, I walked to the window to see the view, not noticing the wad of cash on the desk and their belongings inside. I was more shocked seeing the cash (it looked like a lot) than getting checked into an occupied room. Bellman apologized and took us back to the front desk for another room.

So now, whenever I travel, if I'm in the room, the safety lock is on. If I leave the room after housekeeping has been there, I put the do not disturb sign on the door. Hoping that if someone is given keys to my room, they will not enter if they see the sign. Not much of a safeguard, but there's really no way to keep someone from entering your room if you're not in it.

This has happpened to me twice. On both sides ofthe issue. I was at a very upscale resort in California and the bellman brought me to a room that was obviously occupied and thankfully empty ! The front desk quickly fixed the problem and apologized. I received a fruit and wine basket shortly after I was in my correct room.

In Chicago someone tried to enter my room. I always put the safty lock on and when I went to the door, asking who was there, the individual said she had a key and was sent to his room. I called the front desk for her and they apoligized and came up for her with a new key and a change of room.

I never am in a hotel room without the security lock on the door.

The idea of the DO NOT DISTRUB sign is a good one and one that I will add to my hotel plan.
