Is there a certain percentage off the room at the Swan/Dolphin for teachers? Or does this vary by season? We are starting to plan a 2012 family trip. DH and I have a DVC membership at Boardwalk Villas, but we don't have enough points for the rest of the family to join us there. They are interested in the Swan/Dolphin since it is nearby, more affordable than the Disney deluxe resorts in the area, and they are definitely not interested in getting the DDP. My sister is a guidance counselor, so she would qualify for the teacher rate. We are looking into the summer of 2012. I see that the regular rack rate for a room is $199 a night for the Dolphin. What is your experience with the teacher discount?

I checked out the Dolphin for this August under the teacher rate and it was $159 per night (standard view) + taxes/fees etc. You usually just need to show some proof of being a teacher/school staff when you check in. I've been there many times and it's a beautiful hotel. The price will go up slightly if you want a different view/balcony.

I had priced a resort view/balcony at the Dolphin for late June...it was $199/night + taxes and the resort fee.

Wow, that's a great deal!! So then, you add the daily resort fee, parking fee and taxes, and it will probably come out to about $200 per night or so. Much less than a standard room at the Boardwalk. My sister has her staff ID and could also bring a pay stub if necessary. Would she be able to book 2 rooms? My parents would be joining us, and they would have their own room. What about a suite that would sleep all 5 of them?

This was the same price the website gave me for July 2012. But I knew it would cost less with the teacher discount.

The $199 was with the teacher discount for that particular type of room. If I remember correctly the rate was over $250 without the discount for my dates.

I believe it came to about $180 per night with all the taxes/resort fees - standard view. The next level up (different view) was around the $200 range - (we don't have a car so I'm not sure about the parking fees).
I can't see why she wouldn't be able to book 2 rooms as long as it's under her name but then again, they're not owned by Disney so they may have different policies. I'm sure a suite can sleep all 5 people but I'm not sure they would apply the teacher discount to it. It can't hurt to call them and ask!

We have 2 rooms booked for Nov with my teacher discount. It is will be $159 a night plus tax and the resort fee. We got a standard room. The Disney resorts in the area are so much higher. Even with our AP discount we still can't afford 2 rooms. (in laws are going this time and MIL is not a great walker so being close to 2 resorts will be a plus)

Do professors qualify for the teacher rates or do you need to be a K-12 teacher to qualify?

Call and check the rates before you book. Two years ago I got $99 a night in April special that was about $30 cheaper than the teachers rate for the Swan. I wouldn't have gotten it if I didn't call first. And sometimes they have buy 1 get 1 room free offer. So check the sheraton site before you book and look at all the offers.
This is an awesome resort. The pool is beautiful.

Expedia has the Dolphin for mid to late August now for $129 per night ( or at least it did this morning)
