Swan & Dolphin Question

Hi all! I have been lurking around the boards for a couple weeks just collecting information for a surprise birthday vacation to WDW in September. I have a question about the Swan and Dolphin resorts though. Are these hotels actually "Disney Resorts"? I saw information that stated that guests of these hotels could not take advantage of the Magical Express shuttle from the airport. If it is not a Disney hotel what are the benefits and drawbacks of the resort?

Thanks for your help!

They are not Disney hotels. Owned by Starwood Hotels. Really nice hotels in a good location with the best pools onsite. Right next door to the BW and Y&BC. I know that you can't charge to your room and I don't think you can participate in Magical Express.

their location is great.. you can take the ferry to mgm and epcot or walk..

also, they offer a nurse/government worker/teacher discount.. so if you fall into any of those, it's possible to get a great rate and be right in the middle of the magic..

What is that?! I've never heard of that.

By the way...welcome to the boards  BEST thing you will ever do ;) These boards have mad all of my trips more magical and enjoyable for all!

About the S/D I love the Dolphin! I have stayed there twice. Once with DH on a business trip (he was there on business...I was there for Disney  ) and once for an added night at the beginning of a trip. I am a nurse and the 'nurse rate' is awesome :cheer2: IMHO with kids...it's a bit less magic, but for grown ups (or almost grown ups ;) ) it's great!

Thanks for the welcome and the help. I've only been to WDW twice in my life (I'm 25) and my last trip cemented my love for the place. The trip is for my neice so I want to make it as special as possible on my budget. Any resort suggestions are welcome!

Thanks

We just came back from 12 nights at the Swan. We previously stayed at the Dolphin. They are both great resorts! You can't beat the location, the grotto pool and the water taxi to MGM and Epcot. Plus you are right on the Boardwalk with great restaurants.
