Just wanted to let anyone who has a reservation NYE week at
the Swan/Dolphin to check their rate. Checking in after Christmas
there has been no discount avaliable. I did manage to get a rate
of $230.00 going through the SPG website on 35% off resorts
offer but today I was checking rates (as I compulsively do,) even
tho we are using points our friends traveling with us are paying.
The rate has dropped to $189.00 per night at both the Swan and
Dolphin. You can get that rate online but its better to call the resort and mention you saw it on the internet. They will match
it for you and you can avoid the "no cancelation penalty" that
they tack on the internet only rate. I just did this and saved our
friends $40 per night. We are checking Dec. 30 and staying till
Jan. 1 but they were showing that same rate earlier in the week
too.

Hope this helps someone. These boards have saved me lots of
$$$$.

I got Dolphin for $159 thru internet special on spg site for 12/25/04, but you have to pre-pay. Last year I got teachers discount at Swan for $149 for the whole week 12/28-1/02/04!

I got a great rate last year too! But this year arriving after
Dec. 26th the discounts have been nil. I was excited to see this
rate drop

Thanks for posting this Wintermom! The Dolphin and Swan did not release their discounted rates for Christmas/ New Years early this year. I got my discounted rate last year ( around $179 plus taxes I believe for a resort view with a balcony). I have been checking this year since April with no luck , coming in the same time you are. We wound up booking BCV for several days because I got tired of waiting for the rates to come down and then booked the Poly for a couple days around New Years. Now I have to decide whether I should switch over to the Dolphin. Much lower rates there and I really like the hotels.

Thanx Wintermom...they just matched an Expedia rate for us ($129) 12/18-28...saved $175 overall from our orig rates. YAY!!!!! And I agree with the best part being the normal cancellation policy and not having to pay in full up front!

I was just able to add NYE to my reservation for the Swan. I had originally booked just 4 nights but when we decided to add NYE to our reservation I was not able to get a rate lower than $305.00 for the last night. Now I have all five nights at the Swan for $149.00 and I don't have to switch resorts for my last night.:Pinkbounc

I booked 2 weeks ago and from reading this thread discovered that the rate for Christmas has decreased by 20 dollars. I called the hotel and they told me to call Starwood. Called Starwood and was passed to two different people. Then I was told that I have to wait until tomorrow to call the internet department to get the lower rate. I'm guessing that the internet department will not help me out either. I'm seriously considering taking the hit of paying one nights deposit and cancelling the rest of my stay. If trying to get such a small issue as saving 20 dollars a night on my room requires me to speak to 4 different people, then I'm seriously thinking that any issues encountered while at the hotel will be met with the same poor level of service. I guess it doesn't pay to plan ahead.

I have stayed at both the Swan and Dolphin, and have found the service to be fantastic. The staff goes out of their way to make your stay as wonderful as possible. I have found dealing with Starwood to be less than pleasant. I would recommend calling the hotel directly again, and talk to a manager if they can't help you immediately. Sometimes they do transfer you to Starwood and you may not realize it.

I agree with Sherri....I have only the best to say about service/guest relations at the Dolphin. Actually, the only place we have had a glitch or two at was CBR. I would call resort reservation directly and explain to them your situation. The employees at the Dolphin were top notch during our stay last December, and we had the $99 rate, so I know it wasn't because we were big spenders there. I would hate to see you lose your deposit, wouldn't that be worse than not changing your rate anyway?

I called the hotel directly to get that rate also. Like so many
things it may depend who you talk to. The lady I had could not
have been more helpful. This will be our third stay at the swan
and we have always been totaly pleased.

Good luck!

The best swan/dolphin rates are via the internet only. Much higher if you call reservations. ::MickeyMo

Well I am not sure about it being higher if you call. I found the
rate on the internet and when I called they quoted me a higher rate but I told her what I had found on the internet and she said
she would match it. She told me all I have to say is where and what rate I saw and she could match it and I would have a 5 day
cancelation instead of a" no cancelation aloud "which is what is quoted on the internet.

I agree that calling direct can be better than internet rates. The Expedia rate was showing 130 for my dates and the Dolphin knocked a dollar off, were very helpful, no struggling, happy to do it....as a matter of fact, most hotels /resorts I have called directly match or come pretty darn close to internet rates. It is so much nicer to deal with them directly also. I have only the best to say about my experiences staying and planning trips at the Dolphin.
