For the first time, I will have access to an Android Tablet for my flight next week (YIPPEEEE). I also have a free movie coupon thanks to a very nice Disser. So explain slowly, using small words, pictures if possible, how I set my tablet up to watch on the plane.

Thank you so much!!

Yup, still clueless. You did see the "for dummies" part right?
And, when I go, the 3 o'clock parade is at 5!!

Ok so when you get on the plane you will need to set your tablet to get the wireless on the plane.

You do this the same way you would at any other location with wifi. Exactly how you do it would depend on your exact tablet if you want to tell us what you have we can probably help with that part.

Then you go to your browser. You'll get a message about needing to sign in (or sometimes you just directly go to the signin page without the message not sure why). Say ok and it will take you to a southwest connection page.

From this page you can view the flight tracker for free (its cool!) or you have options for things like movies or internet. Click the tab for movies.

There you will have an option to pay to see movies. I'm assuming if there are coupons that you can then put in your code and get it for free.

The hardest part of the whole process really is the part where your tablet is in "airplane mode" if it has 3G capabilities but you still have access to wifi... so for help with that tell us what type of table you have.

I can do it on a samsung galaxy tab but if you have something else I"m sure someone else here will know how.

it's from Verizon. My grandson plays games on it!!! I meant it when I said clueless!! I believe its an ellipse? And do I not have to download an app at some point?

Ok I checked out the link and didn't realize that they apparently changed it since I last flew.

To get the app they want you to download:

Your device is an android that means you should have an app called "Play Store" it looks like a white suitcase with a blue and red triangle on my phone. When you open it there will be a white bar at the top that says "Google Play" this is a search bar type "airtime app" there. The first result in yoru search should be "Airtime Player" Which will be a blue icon with a white upside down teardrop. Click that

There will be an install button. Click that and the app will install.

I recommend you do that before the flight. no point in wasting the time downloading it on the plane. It will work faster with your normal wifi.

See, small words, visual clues. I could probably do that!! I will try it when I get home tonight. Not telling DGS that I am "borrowing" his tablet for the trip.

I just flew Southwest last week and used my iPad for the free TV. I just had to connect my iPad to Southwest wifi when I was onboard, and then go to my browser and their page came up. It's the only page you can access while in airplane mode. From there, it's pretty easy to navigate and find the shows you want to watch. I didn't have to download an app or accept any terms or anything like. Not sure if it varies by device, but it was pretty straightforward.

I'm sure I will manage, just needed one more thing to stress about!! If not, I have a bag full of crossword puzzles!!
Thank you all for your help :-)

You need the app to view programming which is protected (DRM). Some TV shows aren't protected, you might be able to watch with a browser. OP has a coupon for a free movie. I'm 90% sure you'll need the app to watch a movie. Download and install the app from home.

can't hurt to download the app in advance, just in case. There's not a lot of download space but I can delete DGS's games. He'll never notice!

What are the best headsets or ear buds to cancel background noise?

you just download the app onto your device before you leave home, then on the plane you click on it and watch

Yeah that is how it worked when I had done it in the past too. the app really seems to just be a driver for some things that don't have it though. After downloading it you would still go through the broswer to choose the shows.

Having a device on southwest flights is now a must for me because I have fun just with the flight tracker. I like being able to see where we are and how fast we are going!

Anyone actually get it to work on an Android/Samsung tablet? I've never been able to get it to work on my Galaxy tablet. My wife has an iPad and always gets it to work. There definitely was an issue for android devices (seen plenty of similar comments online, so I know it wasn't just me), hopefully it's been fixed by now.

What's your budget? Bose is considered the best, I think they cost around $300.
Yep, I have the Bose noise canceling earbuds and they work great. They are a lot easier to travel with as they store in a very small pouch that can fit in a pocket. $300 is about right.

So far so good. Downloaded the app. We'll see what happens next week on the plane. Thanks guys!
