I booked air for my parents and my family last month thru southwest. Prices have dropped and I am going into change the flight to get the lower fare and notice I can only do it for the whole reservation. I booked all 6 on one reservation going down and then separate coming back. My mom has had some health issues and one of the reasons we booked swa was that I knew we could cancel, but get credit for future travel. BUT, now I am concerned I would have to cancel all our reservations and just rebook ours. How would it work? Has anyone had to do this? Would I be able to cancel just hers and my dad's and not our (4) ressies? Someone please put my mind at ease. The fares were not cheap.

Yes, all 6 of you are on 1 reservation so you will need to cancel everyone in the party. I learned this lesson the hard way too. Now I break down the reservations. When I traveled with my parents I booked them on 1 reservation and did my family on a seperate reservation even though we were all on the same flight. I also always book our flights as one way tickets. Last time my family traveled I booked each person in my family seperately because if the price dropped and only 3 seats were available at the discounted price (we are family of 5), I was able to get the lower prices on at least 3 of the tickets. But it was a real pain in the neck on the return when I had to go to guest relations at MK to do check in at 24 hours ahead of flight time.

So, all my flight prices have gone down right now, so I am I best to cancel the ressies and re-book them now, so that they are separate? I am changing them anyways to get credit this afternoon. Are there are negatives to this? I don't want to end up backed into a corner. How do I apply the credits when I cancel to my rebooking?

Unless something has changed you will be able to cancel your Mom and Dad if needed you just need to...it can't be done online you need to call southwest...I did this a few months ago when one person on our reservation could no longer go

We have called and had them separate out tickets from the rest of the group. The other tickets were left on the original reservation. You do not have to cancel and rebook. Simply call and ask to have your parents separated out. My nephew plays AAU baseball and we constantly have to change reservations. :3dglasses

Ditto - SW is great this way. I would do the change on the 6 tickets and if you find you need to cancel your parent's ressie later, call them. Also, if they don't show up on the day of the flight, she will also get credit for a no show.
