SWA and Broken Strollers

I would like to know if anyone has had a stroller broken by SWA once it has been gate checked.

Is it true that they make you sign a waiver that if you gate check your stroller and it gets broken that they are not responsible for the damage? What happens if you check it with your luggage and it gets broken is their any recourse?

This is our first time flying with kids and strollers on SWA so I am just wondering what to expect.

From what I have heard... Have not gate checked the stroller yet but will in November...

A gate check tag says they are not responsible for previous damage and you have to sign it. Write on the sign line.... NO PREVIOUS DAMAGE... and sign below it.

Strollers are supposible considered fragile items and airlines don't like to or want pay for damage. Some people have been paid for damaged strollers from the airline... but i hear it is a battle.

Airlines are trying to keep their costs low, so generally will not take responsibility for any special service they provide for free. If you pay for shipping of your stroller, specifically, though, you'd be fully covered for any damage you can show they committed.

We have flown Southwest many times with a stroller and have never had one broken. We always gate check it and it is ready within minutes of getting off the plane. Once I had forgotten to take off a plastic cup holder and this was snapped off but I consider that really my own fault for not taking it off.

If you read the fine print, all airlines have that disclaimer on gate-check tags.

FTR, I've gate-checked on at least 12 different airlines all over the world, incl. hundreds of flights on SWA. Never any damage. (Now FlyBe did chew up our carseat satchel, but they reimbursed me more than it was worth.)
