SW Question

We have flights scheduled for early June and were able to change flight to Orlando to a $59 fare. I think we took the last six seats on the plane as after I made the change this fare was no longer available on our flight. I haven't been able to get the return flight for under $131 (which is what we have it booked at now). Out of curiosity I tried looking on SW for only two seats and was able to get $59 on the return. So here's my question, when I go on the Travel Center could I change just two of the flights to the $59? Anyone had any luck with this? Thanks!

I've tried it in the past and was unable to do it. It was all or nothing.

Thanks Barb . . . I thought it was worth asking. Actually I noticed afterward that it would be a different flight so if we didn't all eventually move over we'd be on different flights home! I guess I'll just keep waiting and watching!

I usually make all separate reservations for my 2 kids and myself and then try to get the discounted fare one at a time. It worked like that for our next trip I was able to get the lower fare on one so far. It's a little extra work but sometimes worth the effort. Keep looking and good luck!

When you change to the discounted fare, do you incur a penalty? If so, is it worth it? Also, if you book separate reservations, don't you risk not getting everyone in your party on the plane (if it sells out)?

I'm going to try that whenever I book my next trip somewhere with Southwest. I'd take a single credit over none at all.

I do think the OP should definitely keep trying though. I do remember that when I couldn't get my credit for all of us at that time, I was eventually able to get it for all us because more seats became available at a later time.

I'm just figuring this out as we usually drive to Orlando. SW is the only airline that does not charge a penalty. You receive a credit which can be used on another reservation within the next year! For example, the first leg of our trip was booked at $79 when I changed to the $59 fare we were credited $20 per ticket ($120 for us since we are traveling with my parents for this trip!) So I would say it was definitely worth it especially since my parents will definitely use the credit on future travel this year.

Call customer relations after your trip and ask them for a refund. They usually credit the card you used when you booked your airfare. They are usually great about it. :)

We have $79 tickets for all three of us on one ressie. I tried to do this when there was a $59 sale and called SW CS to find out if I could do it. You have to cancel the entire first reservation and rebook the two at the reduced fare and then a separate ressie for the remaining seats - which could incur a higher fee if the original price fare is no longer available.
