I'm not exactly a frequent flyer but know that SW tends to be inexpensive. I have a few questions. If you book their internet special rate and the price drops can you get an adjustment? I looked last week for our Dec dates and it was $69 each way. Now it is $84 for the departing trip! I'm thinking I should book before the return trip goes up too. Do you usually have better luck booking far in advance or closer to travel dates?

I think it depends on the day of the week. We're booked for a Friday in August, which I booked at $99. It went down to $84, but hasn't budged since. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays tend to go lower, but I'll usually grab a relatively decent fare if it's a Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

I find that prices out of Dulles don't flucuate nearly as much as BWI (this is to Orlando). However, I never book very far in advance. I get the best rates at about 2 months out from my trip. I always travel on a Tues-Thurs so I know that I can afford to take some risks. If I *had* to travel on a weekend, I would probably be a little more conservative on my booking.

They go up and down all of the time. I booked SW out Dulles for August at $69. Some days it's $69, some days it's $99. I find the weekends have the higher rates. We seldom see the dirt cheap prices that you get out of BWI. So $69 is generally as good as it gets, but I still watch it.

My October flight from Dulles on SW went up and down also. Lowest was $79, highest was $109 (this is for a Wed flight). I did go in and check it it at 12:01am on a Wed. The prices did drop, but for only about 15 mins, then it went back up. I would check in a while, to see what the prices are, then book when you get a low rate. If it goes lower, they will give you a credit for a year. I caught it one morning for $79 and booked it.

Side note: I just checked now and my flight is now $69! :cool1: Guess I need to figure out how to get that credit.

Edited: Turns out I actually booked the $69 rate. So no credit for me. Still was the cheapest rate I could find.

You can change the flight to the lower cost one and you will receive credit for the difference. There are no change or cancellation fees on SWA. The credit is good up to a year after the date you booked the original flight (not the date you changed it to the lower priced one). If your ticket is nonrefundable you won't get refunded the difference - you can only get credit.
