SW Boarding Pass

I printed boarding passes for my DH and myself this morning at work. I had my own computer ready so all I had to do was click for my boarding pass and I set up another computer in the office with my DH's info so after I got mine I could run to the other computer and click to get his. My number is 03 and his number is 15 so in just a few seconds, 12 people clicked after I did! Anyway, I noticed on the bottom left of my boarding pass (right above where it says "Fold here"), there is a number, 63. On DH's boarding pass the number is 75. I am thinking maybe that means there are 62 people ahead of me and/or already on the plane. Is that what that number means, or am I way off? Just wondering.

It would be very surprising to get a 15 spot if you didn't pay for EBCI. So, with that in mind, yes, you have boarding spot 63 and he has 75. It would seem that perhaps the top part, with the 03 and 15 were not printed correctly.

Mine says "Boarding Group B, Boarding Position 03" and his says "Boarding Group B, Boarding Position 15." I thought those (03 and 15) were the boarding spots. I wonder what those Position numbers mean then.

Your boarding position is B3 and your husband's is B15. That means you are in the "B" group - positions 3 & 15. There are 60 people in each group. So boarding positions A1-60 will board first, then family boarding, then the B positions in order from 1-60. Following that logic, you are number 63 and your husband is #75.

They have poles at the gate with numbers on them to help people line up in order, in groups of 5. When they call for B, you will stand by number 1-5, your husband will stand by 11-15. Then within those numbers you line up in order.

The numbers (top and bottom) actually do match. There are 60 poeple in Boarding Group A, so the third position in Boarding B is 63 overall and the 15th position in B is 75th overall.

And yes, it would appear that 12 people checked in between when you checked yourself in and when you checked your husband in.

For future reference, just in case you had not thought about it, you won't need 2 computers next time. Just open up a second browser window on a single comuter.

The bottom numbers indicate the order in which people checked in. With that in mind, you were the 63rd person to check in and your DH was the 75th.

Since you are in the "B" group, you will line up after all the "A" people have boarded.

Here's the boarding order:

*Anyone holding a Blue Pre-Boarding card (for those who need extra time, usually for medical reasons or wheelchair bound). You may not sit in exit rows if you pre-board.

A 1-15 are called first

A 16-30 board next

A 31-60

*Then they allow anyone who is A-List (SWA Frequent Fliers who've reached high status) that didn't get a boarding number in the "A" category.

*Then they allow families traveling with SMALL children (ages 3 and under) to board.

B 1-30

B 31-60

C 1-30

C 31-60

Does purchasing the early boarding "upgrade" for your flight really work or is that just nonsense?

If you don't purchase that add-on can you still get a group A boarding?

I'm wondering if that $12.50 pp is worth it?

Early Bird Check-In really does work. What happens is that the A-List (Southwest Frequent Flier Elite) automatically receive Boarding Numbers A 1-15. Then, Early Bird Check-In automatically receives the next Boarding Numbers. THEN, everyone else is assigned a Boarding Number based on when they check-in. If the flight is not full, you still stand a fairly good chance of getting an A boarding group as long as you are still one of the first people to check-in at the 24-hour mark.

If the OP of this thread checked-in at EXACTLY the 24-hour mark and received B 3, then it can be assumed that 15 A-Listers and 47 Early Bird Check-in people received Boarding Numbers before the OP checked-in.

Some flights offer the opportunity to purchase an earlier boarding number at the gate. I think it's around $40.

Not quite...

A1-A15 are reserved for Business Select passengers. Starting with A16, they assign positions to A-List Preferred passengers and then A-List passengers. Then they begin assigning boarding positions to those who purchased EBCI. They start with those who purchased an Anytime Fare ticket, assigned in order by the date and time they purchased EBCI. Finally the Wanna Get Away passengers are assigned a boarding position, again in order by date and time of purchase of EBCI.

If spots A1-A15 are not full, SW may choose to offer them for $40 at the gate.

Also, family boarding (when offered) takes place between groups A and B.
