We return from our cruise the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. We are frequent travelers of SW airlines, but not usually during holiday weekends.

Right now the airfare for the week I need is $265 RT per person, way more than I have ever paid. We have 2 rapid reward tickets, so we only need to buy 2 airfares, Do you think they will open up the cheaper prices? Just would like some feedback from others who have flown SW on Labor Day weekend.

Thanks
Joanna

You have 4 in your group, right? Have you considered using your 2 rapid reward tickets for 4 one-ways and just paying for the outbound one-way flight for all 4? This would only help if it's the return flight that doesn't have a lower fare available. We've done this before and found it very helpful when our return flight was during the blocked out time in March.

I will have to check it out and see if they charge you more for one way. Thanks I never thought of that.

I plugged in 9/5 to 9/12 and found 74.00 each way fares. You might want to check that out.

Thanks Gail...But we need to return 9/4

Maybe it will open up.

I am not sure of your dates, BUT, if you book the 74.00 flight down and the 123.00 fare back, you still save a little money.
It seems your problem is the coming back part. I am leaving on the 3rd. So, I get to be there over Labor day, OH BOY!!!! ;(

We are leaving on the 27th of August and returning on the 4th of September. I just may book at the $265 price and if it drops I'll get the credit and DH can use it. I am so undecided whether to wait them out or book it. Maybe I'll wait till May 5th and then that will be 4 months out. I do notice SW sometimes releases the cheaper seats accordingly.

Once Tuesday comes Orlando should empty out big time.

Yep, it probably will empty out. Good luck and I hope they release some less expensive fares for your time frame.

Southwest does not charge more for the one-way promotional fares. I'd book 4 one way tickets to Orlando and use the 4 one-way rapid rewards tickets for the return. Can you fly out a day early? 4 tickets on Aug. 26 in the evening from Islip would be $370.80. If you do need to leave on Aug. 27, the best one-way I'm seeing would be $510.40. But this is close to the same price as buying 2 round trip tickets at $518.60.

Hope I'm not intruding by responding, and I know you've received good advice from Gail, but we've used the rapid rewards tickets to book one-ways many times, and I felt like I'd discovered something wonderful when I realized we could do that!

Mareed...You are not intruding at all. I appreciate everyone's responses. But, you are right unless I go in on Thursday night, it really doesn't pay to get 4 one ways.

Joanna

UPDATE....THANKS all for the idea of using my 2 free R/T rapid reward tickets for 4 one ways. Well it did happen and SW has opened up the $74 rate for 8/27, SO I cancelled out my other tickets and received half credit to my credit card and half SW credit. Then I booked 4 one way tix at $74 each and used my 2 rapid reward tix for 4 one way tickets home on Labor Day weekend at the higher rate. So now instead of paying $530 we are paying $330. That is why we fly SW so frequently. Because they know how to do business, they make people happy and make money at the same time.

Way to go SWA

I'm so happy for you that it worked out and you were able to save money! I'm anxiously awaiting Southwest's late December dates as it looks like we may fly instead of drive, and I also have 2 RR tickets that I may be using for 4 one-ways because our return date is on a blockout date.

Glad it worked out for you, Mjasp!

Another reason to LOVE SWA!!!!
