I'm not very familiar with cars. I'm taking my 5 kids to Disney in January. 3 teens and 2 younger kids. I had booked a minivan with National, hoping rates would come down, but so far it's looking like $610. My DH (who is not going on the trip) thinks a standard SUV with National would be fine, for $396. Any ideas? We are staying off-site about 5 minutes away, and not doing anything besides the parks. Also, my mom will be there half of the trip with another car, so the kids will ride with her, too.

Some SUV's only seat five, so be careful of that.

Have you tried any of the discount codes listed at mousesavers? I've gotten an awesome rate with Alamo using the Walmart code which includes an additional driver for free. There are also coupons available - the most recent is $40 off that works with the discount code.

I don't know whether these apply to the larger vehicles, but it's worth a try.

Also, the rates have been dropping. I re-entered the codes into my original contract a few times and the price keeps dropping. I don't understand this whole process but I'll take what I can.

I just booked a standard SUV with Alamo today for 8 days end of January - $195 all taxes in.

I used the printable coupon for $25 from Mousesavers plus the Walmart code. The Walmart code also allows a second driver for free, plus unlimited mileage (which may be pretty standard anyway).

I'm still looking to score a deal with National though as I like the idea of Emerald Isle.

I think there are very few SUVs that actully do seat more then 5... we had to look threw a lot before picking out our discovery...

Well, bottom line is that for the most part, National uses Chevrolet Trailblazers or Jeep Grand Cherokees as their standard suvs, neither of which hold more then 5...

Hm...sounds like I should keep the minivan, and try to get the rate down. I'll keep trying. Thanks for your help! :goodvibes
