Sushi Question

I am trying to decide whether to do the DxDDP or pay OOP. I am looking for a restaurant with good sushi (maybe not ONLY sushi though). These look to be my best options but I have questions about these options related to DxDDP:

1. California Grill (Can you get sushi only as an appetizer or as an entree, too?)
2. Kona Cafe (If you eat there for dinner, can you get sushi from the sushi bar? Is it available just as an app or as an entree, too?)
3. Kimonos (I know they don't accept the DxDDP, so we would forgo the plan and pay OOP--with a 20% off DVC discount. But do they have only sushi?)

So which one would you do?

Also, do you still get dessert with the DxDDP if ordering sushi?

California Grill - On the DxDDP you can get any of the sushi as your appetizer with the exception of the 2 most expensive rolls (Yoshie's Platter and the Dragon Roll $28 each). Those two can be ordered as entrees. You get a dessert as well.

We had the Spicy Kazan roll and the California Roll as our appetizers. The fireball sauce for the Kazan roll is actually on the scallops that accompany the roll and not on the sushi itself. It was very good. The California Roll was flavorful, but pretty ordinary so not something we would order again.

Wolfgang Puck's (DTD West Side by Bongo's) also has a sushi bar at the front of the restaurant. The bar and tables in that area are first come first serve. DH and I often try the sushi there and it's been excellent!

They are on the Dining Plan and also serve from their regular menu, so that may also be an option.

That's correct: Wolfgang Puck Cafe does offer sushi selection off their dining room menu. You can get the sushi sampler platter as your DDP or DxDP entree, at the very least.

We will not be in the DDT area for dinner, so WPE is out. We will be there for lunch and will be eating at EoS. We just want sushi that night, and we are planning on doing some resort-hopping that night to see the Christmas decorations. We are trying to decide between Kimonos and visiting the Epcot resorts or Kona Cafe or California Grill and doing the MK resorts. (Whichever resorts we don't do that night, we will visit them on another day.) I don't think there are any reservations though for CG, so I guess I need to focus on KC or Kimonos. Which would you choose?

I guess it would depend on what area you are in at the time. If you are in the MK area, I would try to get into Cali Grill. I believe they have some walk up room at the bar. But if not, keep Kona as a backup. Depending on the night, Cali might be booked and they may not let you upstairs to that floor. If you do make it, it would be nice to be able to be up there during the MK fireworks. The music is piped in and it's pretty fun.

Honestly, for sushi, I think Kimonos is the best. It is a small restaurant and all they really specialize with is sushi. Here is the menu. They also usually have specials. http://allears.net/menu/menu_su.htm. That said, they usually have karaoke and so sometimes it's hard to get a table, depending on the night and time.
