Hi all,

I was wondering, how is the Sushi at Captain Cook's at the Poly? My brother's GF and I are looking to have a sushi night and Cali Grill will be closed during our stay. I've eaten at the the Kona Island Sushi bar before and it was quite good, however it's exceptionally pricey and I'm not sure how much she's wiling to spend as there is a fairly tight budget for this trip.

We don't have hoppers and our sushi night will fall on our MK day which is why I haven't mentioned anywhere in Epcot

i would recommend kimono's over at the swan resort but it's not very convenient to MK. no idea about the poly, though...

I second Kimonos. It is much cheaper than the Poly and the sushi is far, far better. We thought the sushi at the Poly was not as good as what we can get in our small town, which is average at best.

Agreed about Kimono's! Its a quick walk from the Boardwalk so not inconvenient at all.

In the past, restaurant.com has included Swan/Dolphin restaurants for a discounted meal... we ate at Kimonos (yummy!) and had a good coupon... I think $2 for a $20 dollar certificate with a minimum purchase of $50? Something like that...

One of my philosophies in life is 'you get what you pay for'. I found Kona to be much more reasonably priced than Cali grill, albeit without the atmosphere. But as a sushi aficionado, those are probably the best options on property outside the F-n-W festival. I had sushi from the captains cook, and it was decent Publix pre packaged sushi at best.

Another vote for Kimonos. DH & I ate there in October for a change from F&W. The tempura is wonderful, not greasy. The sushi? Soooooooo good. The brown sugar and pear martini was one of the best drinks I have had. We will be back in May:goodvibes

I would absolutly love to eat at Kimonos the only issue I have is that it IS at the Swan. We don't have hoppers and with our other ADRs we are at MK and general area all day (for that day only). I feel it would take some time for 2 of us to leave go all the way there, eat and return, and therefore take much more time out of our only MK day. Unless someone could convince me otherwise (using something other than the food...because I already know it would be wonderful)

My parents are sushi fiends and absolutely swear by Kimonos. You could take the bus to the Swan from the MK and it probably wouldn't take that long.

it's not too bad from the MK. walk from the MK entrance to the bus hub and catch a bus to the swan, eat at kimono's and take the bus back to the MK. not a lot of transitions...not ideal, i know but the sushi i had on my trip last month really was excellent...

if it doesn't fit your schedule, maybe try it on another trip...

I know at Kona Island they don't open the sushi bar until 5...are there the same restrictions at Kimonos? Or can we head over whenever? And do we need a reservation...

i've never needed a reservation but i don't think they open till 5:30 (dinner only). i think they usually have karaoke at 9pm if that's a positive or negative...

So we've settled on Kimono's...however when would be best to go. There are 3 options

1. leave DHS on arrival day (getting to the park at 4ish) then returning
2. stop on our way to DTD after Animals kingdom (however only 2 people in our party are eating here so we'll have to find something else for the others)
3. leave MK to Swan then back on our MK day

i would lean toward one of these.

here's a map of the boardwalk area (you can zoom in and out):

google map if the wdw map is acting up

there are several restaurants and eateries in the boardwalk area for your friends to get a sandwich or slice of pizza or fancy seafood dish at bluezoo or steak dinner at the yachtsman steakhouse at the yacht club resort or shula's steakhouse at the dolphin. for a simple dinner, walk-up options should be easy for them - for a nicer dinner, i'd make reservations in advance.
