I am not sure if this question has been posted before but can someome please tell me the best counter service place in WDW to get Sushi? My DS loves sushi but the rest of our family doesn't so since we are going to be in WDW and I want him to enjoy himself... I would love for him to be able to try sushi at different places there. That being said... we don't really want to go to a sit down restaurant just for him to have sushi. Is there even counter services places that serve sushi???

I don't know where you are staying. Ie. fridge. But the Target on the 192 (near the 535) has a good selection as well.

You can takeout sushi at Kimono's (Dolphin? Swan?). The CS locations at the Poly and at the GF now have sushi.

Thanks. I am going to definately print this thread and give it to my DS so he can decide where he would like to go.

Yakitori House in Epcot/Japan and Sunshine Seasons in the Land (Future World/Epcot) both have sushi box for CS.

Are you saying that Captain Cooks serves Sushi? I am curious since I will be going there next month.

Last month when we were in the food court at the Land in EPCOT, there was the prepackaged California Rolls like we can have made at our local Publix. I noticed it because the packaging was identical. It was over by where the Asian food was in a case where the bottled water and stuff like that was.

I know that sushi is covered on the DDP at Sunshine Seasons in the land. But, is there any place else that sushi would be on the DDP as a CS meal.

Thanks

Anyone have more info on this? We're staying at GF and would love to have that as a meal option. Is it just the California roll type?

Can someone explain to me the difference betweeen California roll type and other types of Sushi. My DS keeps mentioning things like this to me and I am trying to understand but don't. :confused3 He keeps saying some are shrimp based etc... or something like that. He eats at a local Japanese restaurant where there is an hibatchi grill and has sushi there. He knows quite a bit about his Japanese "fare", so when I tell him all of the wonderful places you all suggest, I would like to be able to mention what types of sushi are at each one.

Thanks for your help (from the very unknowing "sushi" person).:rotfl:

I swiped this picture off the food porn thread, hope no one minds ;) . I believe this sushi is from California Grill.

The top left picture with the one piece of fish wrapped in nori is called Hosomaki. Hosomaki is when a small piece of fish or vegetable is rolled inside nori and rice.

The next over with the shrimp tail sticking out of it is called maki. Maki sushi generally refers to rice that is rolled around ingredients then rolled in nori (seaweed) or any other wrapper.

The two pieces with crab in it are called Uramaki.
Uramaki is when the ingredients are on the outside, with the rice and nori being on the inside. It's a reverse maki sushi.

The 6 pieces in front are called Nigiri. Nigiri is a bite size piece of rice with fish or other ingredient layed over it.

Not pictured but another popular type of sushi is temaki. Temaki is rice and ingredients rolled in a square of nori. Te means hand, and this sushi is meant to be held in your hand and eaten.

Hope this helps. The most popular type of sushi that I've seen in pictures on here seems to be the California sushi (top right in picture). That is veggies (avacado, cucumber) layered with crab then rolled in rice and nori.

Check on Wolfgang Puck Express.

I don't know if they still have sushi there, or if it's included in the dining plan - some of their entrees are not included.

There is great variation in quality with sushi, and your son may not care for the cheap, pre-made stuff. I'm a Japanese food snob, and I don't like sushi rice that has been refrigerated (which is true of all supermarket sushi). I'm also not a fan of thin cuts of fish. Some of the TS restaurants that serve sushi, such as California Grill and Wolfgang Puck's, have mostly non-Japanese foods, so not everyone would have to get sushi if you decide to go somewhere nicer for it. Definitely check out Kimono's takeout. I've read good reviews of Kimono's, so that might be pretty good.

Wow! You guys sure know your sushi! :thumbsup2 And yes... my son seems to be a little picky because he doesn't really care for the sushi from the supermarkets but since I don't know much about it... I think I am doing something really nice when I pick some up at the supermarket for him. He never complains but just trys to explain it all to me. He is always appreciative.

He will be so excited to get some good stuff at WDW. I can't wait to show him this thread. I guess he will have to definately try Kimono's. From what I am reading here, he can get this as a take-out if he wants??

Thanks again for all of your information.

I'm a big sushi eater and as another poster said, I refuse to eat that premade sushi. I prefer mine fresh made. When sushi is made ahead of time and sits for a certain amount of time the rice can get hard and it's just not right. A california roll is just vegetables and crab meat. Then there is sushi and shashimi. Shashimi is larger slices of fish served over rice and sushi can be a variety of fish served in a smaller portion over a formed ball of rice. (sorry, very hard to explain but it's pictured well in the pic above).

I don't know where your staying but we stay at the Swan and DH and I are at Kimonos at least every other night. Their sushi is excellent and very fresh and they have a good variety. Also the sushi is very good in Japan at Epcot.
