Exactly. I know my job would have a little problem with me taking six weeks off with no contact during that time.

I don't think your chances increase, like others have said, it is the time commitment that you need to be able to have that is a major factor. I would love to be on The Amazing Race, but I'm a teacher and I don't think they would be very willing to let me leave for the number of weeks that are required. That's why you see bartenders, actors, retired workers or stay at home moms.
